On July 9, NBA 2K (the world's most popular professional basketball video game) revealed the cover for the WNBA edition of NBA 2K26, which will release on September 5. The cover shows Chicago Sky superstar Angel Reese driving to the basket.
Reese has burst onto the professional basketball scene during her first two WNBA seasons. She is already considered the league's most formidable rebounder on both offense and defense, and has shown major growth in her game when it comes to being a versatile scorer and playmaker for her teammates.
Not to mention that she's undoubtedly one of the biggest stars in all of women's basketball. Therefore, many feel like Reese is more than deserving of this honor bestowed upon her. However, some on social media aren't agreeing with the choice, as many believe that Indiana Fever star guard Caitlin Clark should have received the honor over Reese.
"reese over clark is just another example of how 2k has fallen😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂," one fan wrote in a reply.
Another fan wrote, "Should have been Caitlin Clark".
"They just robbed Caitlin Clark," a third added with a screenshot of Clark.
However, the comments aren't only about Clark, as many fans are giving Reese her deserved flowers for this impressive accomplishment.
"well deserved. most elite motor in the game of basketball," one fan wrote in a reply to the WNBA X account's post about the cover reveal.
Another added, "This is a great cover. Reese finally getting the respect she deserves as a top 10 player".

I don’t recall these games having to put the “best” player on the cover. Reese is not a bad player.
Ultimately, they put whoever will sell the most games, I’d like to think. I don’t even know who would want a video game version of women’s basketball. It would be like having a video game of AA baseball. You might go to a game and watch it on TV, or follow if they are local, but you wouldn’t play the video game version.
Clark should just quit for a couple of years.
Or, focus on playing in the Olympics and being “a celebrity.”
Let’s see how the WNBA does without her.

Reese is ghetto thug who happens to play basketball. Clarke or Bueckers would present a much better image, but they are - gasp! - WHITE.

The WNBA is trying to sell the physicality of the game and Reece is a great example. Being a rebounder she is going to get into body contact far more than a shooting guard. So to try to create the same attitude of the NBA, they are selling hits rather than skills.
Example, she fouled out of 3 of their first 5 games this year and had 4 in the other two. The women’s leagues have failed because they couldn’t dunk and didn’t hit. The have the dunk now and just need to create an atmosphere of violence to sell the same as the NBA.

Angel Reese: 2025 regular season stats thus far this season: PTS. 13.2. REB. 12.9. AST. 3.9. STL. 1.6. Still a bit of a spasmo on the basketball court yet, but an electric athlete.
Reese also has the advantage of having a testosterone filled body, as “she” is a MAN.
Exactly, I’m sure she’s ok with it so no controversy.
I know. A couple of years without her in the WNBA would be good for the league.
