Zohran Mamdani’s education agenda would set New York City up for failure
The Hill ^ | 7/6/25 | Gregory Lyakhov

Zohran Mamdani’s recent victory in the New York City Democratic mayoral primary has drawn widespread attention for his affiliation with the Democratic Socialists of America and what some see as antisemitic rhetoric. But beyond the headlines, it’s the education platform Mamdani champions that could pose the greatest threat to New York City families — especially those striving to access better schools and brighter futures for their children.

At the core of Mamdani’s approach is an unambiguous rejection of school choice. He opposes vouchers, charter school expansion, and even co-location policies that allow high-performing charters to operate in underutilized public school buildings. His platform calls for a funding overhaul that could severely reduce resources for charter schools, even though they serve 15 percent of city students.

Mamdani opposes charter schools and vouchers based on the claim that they divert public resources, lack accountability and mainly benefit wealthier families at the expense of low-income students. He argues that voucher programs, despite being marketed as tools to help struggling students, are often used by affluent families already in private schools. As President Trump pushes for a national voucher initiative, Mamdani insists that New York must instead invest in a fully funded public school system to ensure true educational equity.

Well no doubt the NEA has their pom-poms and union dues cheering this guy on.

The NEA thinks they are the SCOTUS of education, and have their minion teachers pushing their radical agenda, parents be damned.

I don’t know how many children are Home Schooled in NYC, but this demon would want that eliminated, for sure.

Government schools have been going downhill since at least the 1950s. That’s 75 years of straight decline, at least. It has to be deliberate. Teaching basic stuff is simply NOT that hard. Yet we get worse and worse at it. By design. And here with Mamdani, we see it in action once again.

“invest in a fully funded public school system”

Trillions have already been invested in public schools. Left wing, overpaid administrators and teachers don’t even pretend to educate anymore. Defund public education. We have to burn the village to save it.

He’s probably right about the vouchers, though that doesn’t need to be the case.

Good way to drive even more families out of New York City.

He can have his own little fiefdom with whatever is left - including NO tax base - as he begs Donald Trump to bail him and his city out.

Can’t wait to see Trump laugh in his face.

What I find is this, it’s all BULS-— Get these numbers, 5% of all the registered democrats voted for this communist liberal Muslim. 5% of all the registered Democrats, not all voters, just 5% that’s a joke in my opinion. NYC will get what it deserves while the rest of the nation shines. Democrats have run NYC since Mayor Rudy has destroyed that city. Oh yeah, vote democrat. Every failed town in these United States that fails has a history of being Democrat run....

“...Government schools have been going downhill since at least the 1950s...”

It hit the bottom in 1979 when Jimmy Carter established the Federal Department of Education....It’s been digging even deeper ever since....
