Property taxes are NOT a federal issue.
That pesky 10th amendment. We can’t have it both ways.
The fact that property appraisals have become purely arbitrary and are not based on market value as much as the wish lists sent to appraisal boards by taxing entities, and that state-lwvel judges who derive their salaries from taxes refuse to hear a case involving taxation make a sto g argument to the contrary.
Bingo! That this thread has any bulk on Free Republic is disappointing if not embarrassing.
It appears to be a bogus post on X.
"BREAKING: President Trump says he wants no more property taxes across the United States."
That's it, no quotes, no anything.
The Fourth Amendment bars the government from unreasonable search and seizure of an individual or their private property.
It is unreasonable to tax a person into losing their home.
My suggestion is to limit property taxes to a certain amount of years or perhaps a cumulative total related to a percentage of the property value at purchase. Once that is reached, no more taxes.
I do believe the states should lead on this, but there is a valid 4th amendment consideration IMHO.
