Wine ‘em, dine ‘em. Get their votes. (‘Em.)
On Monday night, Commanders leadership held a dinner for the members of the D.C. Council to discuss the stadium deal on which the Council eventually vote.
Via WUSA9, roughly six members of D.C. Council attended the dinner at Milano’s, an “upscale” spot in Georgetown. (There was a quaint time in American history when activities like this would include a discussion as to whether any ethics rules had or hadn’t been violated.)
The team needs seven to say “yes.” Currently, they have four.
Per the report, a small group of protestors gathered outside, with signs urging the Commanders to pay for their own stadium.
The Commanders want to move things along, so that the stadium will be ready to go in 2030. D.C. Council has been proceeding on its own timeline.
“Frankly, a big reason I’m here is to reiterate that we need some time to do this,” Ward 3 Council member Matthew Frumin said. “We’re in the middle of the budget process, there’s a ton going on.”
Public hearings are set for July 29 and July 30. Then, D.C. Council will be in recess until the middle of September. D.C. Council chair Phil Mendelson will not commit to a prompt vote when the group returns to work.

Thank you very much and God bless you.
No Stadium until they go back to being The Redskins.
Haha! Agreed.
No stadium funding at all. Why should they get any money at all, with any name? What about any business in DC that needs a new building. Should they receive taxpayer funding as well?
It's called extortion.

So I scanned the excerpt. Then I asked myself, who the hell are the Commanders? Some sort of secret society?
Then I saw your post. Got it now.
The DC council and the Mayor represent the ultimate levels for corruption, theft, and uselessness...
They should dig up Walter Washington and make him DC Commissioner once more...
Good bye.....Who will miss them?
Taxpayers provide a nice 50 yard line suite for Congress.
The city is a dump that can’t do anything and yet always cries poor but they always seem to find a easy billion for a stadium. BTW, the stadium is a dump when I saw a concert.
Hmmm Maybe put them on the boards of some NGO … up to no good for sure
I tend to agree with what you said. My inner socialist emerges whenever any sports team wants a new venue. The NFL - and all the other major sports leagues - is a multi-billion dollar industry. Let the league pay for it.
Who are the “Commanders” and why the Hell should I care?
Commanders. A name inviting mockery.
Just like Guardians.
I had a boss from the D.C. area who was a yuge Redskins fan no matter how bad they sucked. When his team or mine (the Titans) played we’d watch together at a local bar.
One Sunday when they played each other he put one of those novelty giant condoms on his head. “What the hell are you doing that for?”
“I’m officially renaming them the Foreskins.” The Skins lost but he couldn’t buy a beer for himself the rest of the night.
I always root for the Washington Football Team to lose no matter whom they play—even if it’s Gaza or Pyongyang.
+1
