Vladimir Putin has been dealt a massive setback after more than 20,000 soldiers deserted the front line in the war against Ukraine – leaving Kremlin forces even more depleted. Courts have received 20,538 cases of service personnel absent without leave, desertion or refusing orders since the illegal invasion began in February 2022, according to Russian independent news service Mediazone.
The majority – 18,159 – were for soldiers going awol, with 17,721 being prosecuted under Russia’s Criminal Code. The maximum punishment is a 10-year jail term. However, those found guilty could commute their sentences by serving in the Storm-Z convict assault units. In its latest update on the European war, the UK’s Defence Intelligence said: “This all runs counter to the official narrative that the Russian leadership values the military service of those who fight in Russia’s illegal war in Ukraine.”

Thank you very much and God bless you.
I wish the Ukrainian AND Russian armies would join up with NATO and sweep across Europe to defeat the real enemy: Islam. Together they could transport them all back to where they came. Enough of these stupid brother wars!
is putin still dying, marcus?
How many deaths can be credited to the shear “Arrogance” of one man?
freedom’s just another word for nothing left to lose...
nothing ain’t worth nothing, but it’s free.
harder times will drive those men to the resistance... the real resistance, not the gay kind.
British tabloid.
“How many deaths can be credited to the shear “Arrogance” of one man?”
Specific Deaths and Incidents:
Journalists:
Numerous journalists have been killed in Russia since Putin’s rise to power, with some investigations stalled or inconclusive.
Political Figures:
Various political figures, including Chechen leaders, have been assassinated, with some cases directly linked to Russia.
Businessmen and Oligarchs:
A number of Russian businessmen and oligarchs with ties to the Kremlin have died under suspicious circumstances, including alleged suicides and falls from heights.
This is a 3% AWOL rate.
Typical for land armies, and some of them are the missing dead.
The headline has an exciting sound though...
What happened to the Chechen blocking troops?
Huff Post says 18k.........
“What happened to the Chechen blocking troops?”
That was BS too.
Lol! The Chechens ran away first.
Storm Z troops who “volunteere” to go on assault missions after being shown how to shoot a rifle were given pardons.
Storm Z was Replaced with Storm V. Now if they survive they are sent back to prison!
Okay, this is pretty misleading. The headline talks about a “massive blow”, making it sound like something that just happened. But in the article, the 20,000 figure is cumulative since the war began. So...no big deal.
3% of the entire army AWOL maybe normal but if that 3% is mostly, in this case 20,000 men, is all in one theater especially in one, where a Kinetic war is being fought, that is bad.
The 20,000 are from every unit deployed to Ukraine since the onset of the war.
So it’s probably closer to 1%.
