I’m guessing they were afraid that someone who didn’t pay might get on.
Better to let the paying customers suffer than have someone get a free ride.

That really worked out well PR-wise, not to mention making paying customers sick.

Back a few years ago my wife & I considered a trip halfway across the country on Amtrak. Sure glad we decided against it, but I didn’t know at the time that they were having those kinds of problems. That could have been a disastrous trip, huh?

Last time I rode amtrak was in 1975 as a 14 y/o 9th grader going to D.C. on a 3 day field trip.

As fate would have it, out of all those kids I was put in the front of the car in one of the front 2 seats for the overnight trip scheduled to arrive in the morning. Between the corridor light in my eyes all night, the click clack of the tracks and the constant slowing for other trains as they passed in the opposite direction I got ZERO sleep.

I told myself back then, never again......not to mention, as I understand it, it’s ridiculously expensive.

The jax tv video clearly shows a TOW engine hooked up to the “new” modernized livery, lead Amtrak engine, which was clearly NOT working. That is why, when the diesel/electric power engine quit (NOT due, assuredly to an engineer who was overtime limits, btw), all the electrical systems in the passenger cars and all other cars— shut down. No a/c, no water pressure- even the hydraulic/electric doors between cars would not work to say, stay open and let air flow in and out of individual cars.

We should put an enquiry in to Hunter Biden who used to have a seat on Amtrak’s BOD (no kidding) either before or concurrent to his Burisma Ukraine oil company BOD job. Daddy Bags Joey Biden got him the Amtrak job- thanks to his constant travel on his own “car” so to say— between Wilmington, DE and Washington DC. This breakdown is a MIRROR of the breakdown in Joey Bags Biden and his criminal family and son. To be blunt, it’s diagnostic the grift within Amtrak constantly seeking more funds to prop itself up- and pissing is all away on kickback contracts. All to maintain the NE corridor and Acela for the “elite” morons who make us all pay so they can travel— much more on a ratio than today’s aviation subsidies do for airlines.

Secondly- the trains in Germany carting people away in cattle cars to labor/death... come to mind. God Bless the Boy Scouts who helped people on board. So much for the romance of trains on Amtrak.

Y’all may not know this but Warren Buffett owns Burlington Northern and all of its tracks. Amtrak has to pay road fees to Burlington Northern on all of their tracks Amtrak uses. So, aside from making millions off of forced oil tank cars (vs. the Biden shut down pipeline) shipping crude to Houston, Buffett the genius also gets a large piece of Amtrak subsidized train routes/fares— into his pocket, renting his rail lines. CSX does the same thing for nearly all of the Southern US Amtrak routes (including this one all the way from DC to Miami).

Ain’t socialism fun. The other article on 1990 Soviet grocery stores goes along well with this “climate saving” bullcrap of trains. Check the fares as they are now, then check the Unions that Joey demento loves- the “working” people. Spit.

“In a train that’s turned off, with no AC, no air circulation at all, 95 degrees boils up over 120 PDQ.”

I suppose that now you are a train expert, too?

Not you again, huh, please?

You obviously do not live in the South. I have worked in the yard at 120 degrees. I simply have enough sense to keep myself hydrated.

Don’t need to be a train expert to know tin cans with no air circulation heat up quick. All you’ve got to do is pay attention to the annual PSAs about not leaving your dog in the car. According to those PSAs a car in 95 degree weather heats up to 138 degrees in about an hour. Perfectly logical that a train car is going to heat rather similarly, a little slower due to mass and quantity of air. But a tin can is a tin can, and when there’s no AC it gets hot.

I live in Tucson, have since the 70s. I’ve dealt with heat. And I’m also smart enough to know that they probably any hydration either. So your pointless brag has nothing to do with the FACT that a tin can with no AC gets much hotter than the outside very quickly.

I was wondering how long it would be before you again started the name-calling. It was quick this time. Congratulations. ;-)

Oh, yes! Arizona. Dry heat, right? ;-)

The fact, which you seem to be overlooking, is the fact that the passengers were given the choice to leave the train. Apparently , only the smart ones chose to leave and they suffered no ill effects. The rest are dumber than a box of rocks AND crybabies. ;-)

Go away little boy before I embarrass you again. ;-)

You claim that you are a stanch conservative. Why are all of your posts anti-conservative, huh? ;-)

I didn’t call anybody names.

Sure they got the option to leave the train... and then what? They won’t be allowed back on. So now they’re off the train, and they’ve got to figure out how to finish their trip. Why couldn’t Amtrak recognize the situation, get everybody off the train until they could get their engineer, and take care of them while off the train. Eventually they had to get them off the train anyway and bussed the people.

There’s nothing anti-conservative about recognizing responsibility. Any passenger carrier has a responsibility to their passengers to deal with problems in a way that doesn’t put them in danger, and doesn’t force them between bad choices. Amtrak failed in their responsibility. And all the name calling of passengers YOU engage in won’t change the fact that Amtrak FAILED.
