I saw a social media post and if you have a newer car, enter the VIN and see what the insurance company, manufacturer and government have on you. It's mind blowing.

You just need you VIN. There are ways to opt out of all the snooping.

If it returns my name, address etc etc etc, I wouldn’t give my VIN over to them.

Gotta agree. I just ran it through a couple of scam detector websites. “Questionable” and “proceed with caution” came back. That’s a mixed rating.

So who knows?

(No disrespect meant to wac3rd. You tried to post something helpful here.)

Regarding search sites, “idcrawl(.com)” has found the text of letters (in archive.org) to the editor I wrote to non-political magazines in the late 1970s.

I was able to submit mine directly to Toyota. They certainly have all that info.

It’s not that difficult to pick-out possible scam websites these days. It has to pass the ‘smell test’, and somehow, this one doesn’t.

My new Toyota has an app called “Drive Connect” that allows remote locking/unlocking/starting/windows actions - it also has an option to monitor your driving habits, but you can opt out so that info “supposedly” isn’t collected.

Why would I give out info like my Vin to someone/website I don’t know or trust. How cool to let people know what kind of car you have and where you live....so much easier for criminals.

I bought a new car earlier this year. Within a few months I was receiving 3rd party extended warranty offers in the mail for the new car. I doubt the car dealer sold them the info, so that leaves the state DMV or the insurance company.
