June 26 (Reuters) - Chinese-owned GE Appliances said on Thursday it will spend $490 million to shift production of some washing machines to the U.S. from China as it rebalances its factory footprint amid extreme trade tensions between the world’s two largest economies. The washers will be built at the company’s "Appliance Park" in Louisville, Kentucky, a sprawling complex of factories that serves as its U.S. hub.
The company, a division of China’s Haier, said it will add 800 workers after U.S. production begins in early 2027. The Kentucky government will provide up to $113.5 million in tax incentives for the project.

Thank you very much and God bless you.
“government will provide up to $113.5 million in tax incentives”
Government shouldn’t pick winner and losers. How about penalties for off-shoring and foreign made imports instead of tax breaks to move here? Tariffs are a good start.
The beauty of tariffs. Love it.
Too bad they’re not made in Kentucky anymore.
We are dealing with that garbage on a local level.. a business (that would compete with existing ones including mine) is trying to get the city to cut them some breaks to move in to town..
We have been very vocal at the meetings about how we feel about funding our compitition. after all, if they get a tax break someone else has to pick up that slack.
“Chinese-owned GE Appliances”
That’s a problem
I’m with ya.
I remember car batteries lasting 8 or 10 years. Now it seems I am constantly replacing 2 year old batteries.
Chainsaw Al is turning over in his grave.
Buy Speed Queen.
Last forever. Leave ‘em to your grand kids.
Oh yeah . .made in the US of A.
Cut out your Starbucks for a few weeks. Make up the price difference. Or, buy a used one from a reputable repair shop to circle to process.
Sell it here. Make it here. Spend it here. Earn it here.
The virtuous cycle.
Like all appliance companies they need to go back to producing 80’s models. Appliances were so much more reliable then.
“GE Appliances to spend $490 million reshoring production of washing machines from China”
won’t make much difference if the domestic machines still won’t actually wash clothes because they use only a quart of water ...
“Government shouldn’t pick winner and losers. “
Government paid to offshore those companies in tax incentives and even direct grants. So yeah, they paid corporate America to strip mine manufacturing from America, so they should pay to bring it back.
I’m going to get Speedqueens, of course, that is if my Series 70 Kenmores ever die.
My old GE just died. My wife and I decided to replace it with a 15 year old refurbished Commercial Grade Whirlpool that predates all the “water saving” features. It is almond colored, that’s how you can tell it is old. It actually cot more than some new washers ($350), but I expect it to outlast those.
Trump repealed that.
I think they mean that Kentucky taxpayers will foot the bill.
Under Obama GE moved all their diagnostic imaging systems manufacturing to China. Obama had his Small Business Czar, Jeff Immelt GE CEO, improve relations with the ChiComs.
Are these the fancier front-loading GE models with all the Wifi, Bluetooth, and crap on them that nobody asked for?
And whatever IP GE had in those systems is lost!
