So much better than today.

If I recall correctly, this was of the time of the “2nd British Rock Invasion”. Much better than the first. I can see several such songs.

Of course with music much is opinion.

Does anybody alive refer to the pop music charts anymore. I doubt it.

I could pretty much listen to all of that except Sussudio.

Sorry Phil, but that song drove me up the wall.

Several of these I despised at the time, but now the nostalgia is so strong I kind of like them.

My 1985 summer was a very weird planet.

EVERY Top 100 (not just top 20) singles and album chart for every week from 1970-1982 is available here, e.g. this one from this week in 1979:

Top 100 singles for the week of June 16, 1979

Some weekly charts have more than 100 songs.

I wasn’t a big fan of the music of that time, but in retrospect, it was great.

Tears for Fears @ #1.
Still a mainstay of my music listening - so many good songs...

The above named - “Everybody Wants to Rule the World”
“Woman in Chains” with the great Oleta Adams
“The Working Hour”
“Bad Mam’s Song”
“I Believe”

I need to go back and listen to them all.

When music was music. I was fourteen and we jammed to many of those songs..

These days, if one wants good music, one must look to Europe. Florence and The Machine, Rammstein and Nightwish are good examples of good modern music.

Brittany Howard and the Alabama Shakes are an exception. Howard is a powerhouse vocalist who has won multiple Awards.

My post’s to this thread aside - the only band that has ever rocked through the ages is “The Allman Brothers Band”.

Flame away Freepers - but their music stands on it’s own.

Of all of those, I could listen to Prince’s, ‘Raspberry Beret’ from now until the end of time. LOVE that song.

And yes, I DO own a red beret! And a Coyote hat, and Raccoon earmuffs. (It’s cold up here in the winter months!)

I’ve often wondered about the correlation of the decline of rock music and the removal of lead from gas, the end of the muscle car era and the rise of disco.
How different would things be if we had managed to hold on to The Beach Boys and big blocks...
