Iran is suffering blow after blow, and Russia, its most powerful supporter, is apparently not prepared to do much of anything about it.
Not long ago, backing the West’s least-favorite power in the Middle East had its uses. In prosecuting his war of attrition in Ukraine, Vladimir Putin has made confrontation with the West the organizing principle of his foreign policy. In that context, edging closer to Iran and its partners in the “Axis of Resistance” made sense.
...........
A defenseless Iran will not respond well to Russian sticks, and in any case, Moscow is unlikely to take a punitive approach to Tehran. Russia may not have shown up as Iran’s knight in shining armor, but the two countries are still partners, and they are fundamentally united in an anti-Western agenda. Russia also has few meaningful carrots to offer Iran at this point and will be cautious about providing military equipment in a moment when Israel is systematically destroying it. And Putin is not someone who likes to openly side with what appears to be the losing party.
.........
Strategically isolated and acutely vulnerable, Iran will be even more distrustful of the United States than it was before Israel’s attack, and it will want Russia involved for at least the appearance of balance. But Russia has little influence over the outcome of the war, Iran’s next steps, or Washington’s decision as to whether it will engage militarily.
When it comes to shaping events far from Russia’s borders, Moscow is only so interested and only so able, particularly given its deep investment in the war in Ukraine. Having anti-Western partners in the Middle East serves its purpose. But no one should hold their breath waiting for Russia to come to the rescue of Iran.

Globalist, shmobalist.
The most aggressive imperial power of the last several decades is Russia.
“All driving out the regime in Iran is going to do is push Russia further into a dangerous alliance with China.”
Dangerous? Russia is being reduced to a mere client state of China. The Second Most Powerful military on the planet has been exposed as a schoolyard bully with not much heft to its punch.
Russia and Iran sign an alliance...so it’s worth nothing
“”The Second Most Powerful military on the planet has been exposed as a schoolyard bully with not much heft to its punch.””
Except for their nukes. Which... in any logical, normal, sane world (obviously not ours)... would make them extremely dangerous if backed into a desperate corner of defeat.
For over two years, Russian TV has been cheerleading for nuclear strikes on Western capitals and New York City. This “threat” is getting long in the tooth.
“...if backed into a desperate corner of defeat.”
The “desperate corner” would mean simply withdrawing to Russia’s own borders.
If your country quit invading its neighbors, it wouldn't be quite so "busy" (killing civilians, sort of like Iran).
“”The “desperate corner” would mean simply withdrawing to Russia’s own borders.””
Why yes... in a semi-perfect, normal, halfway sane world... it would. Alas....
Could you guarantee that outcome, considering how crazy things have been on planet earth lately? Hell, even Trump recently made the comment that “Putin is crazy”. Doesn’t that bother you a bit? Or are you counting on Trump just being Trump re: that. Let’s hope and pray that Trump was just trolling with that one.
There media is controlled....they don't bleep out secrets like our DEM media.
Western media isn’t telling the whole story, by a long shot.
The hits on Tel Aviv are obviously worse than what is being reported, ports have been severely damaged, a major gas refinery was damaged at Haifa, but the major sources for these and multiple other examples in Israel like this seem, once again, along the lines of the initial reports on the Russian-Ukraine War. Once again, a person will have to go to English-language Asian, Brazilian, Eastern European, etc, news sources.
The following story has its origin point in The Telegraph, whose story is behind a wall, but I believe this report is word-for-word:
China sends mystery transport planes into Iran
Sophia Yan
6/17/25
“A day after Israel attacked Iran on Friday, a cargo plane took off from China. The next day, a second plane departed from a coastal city. Then on Monday, yet another departed, this time from Shanghai – three flights in three days.
Data showed that on each flight, the plane flew westward along northern China, crossing into Kazakhstan, then south into Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan – and then falling off the radar as it neared Iran.
To add to the mystery, flight plans indicated a final destination of Luxembourg, but the aircraft appeared to have never flown near European skies.
There is concern over what might have been sent from China in the direction of Iran as Tehran’s war with Israel rages on.
Aviation experts have noted that the type of plane used, Boeing 747 freighters, are commonly used for transporting military equipment and weapons, and hired to fly government contract orders. ...”
Oh well, Russia has already said the U.S. should stay out of this, looks like China has reacted to Trump apparently not doing that, and here we are...

the russkies are up to their asses in alligators in ukraine, have used up massive reserves of war equipment and personnel in ukraine, have zero ability to project power much further than ukraine, and the last thing they want is to lose the rest of their air force trying to supply iran with a meager amount of munitions; plus the russkies have now lost their main source of drones and missiles, namely the ones they’ve been buying from the iranians ... guess the russkies will have to fall back on buying weapons from the norks again ...
“A better question is why isn’t China.”
given that china obtains 50% of its oil from iran, i suspect china would prefer a more stable situation with iran, and an iran with the ability to deliver missiles topped with nukes would be anything but stable, and in fact would most likely start a worldwide nuclear holocaust in less than a generation ...
China has already said it is backing Iran. They have even sent plane loads of help.
Doesn’t look like any Middle Eastern country is backing them. Abraham Accords are working.
All China cares about is will the oil keep flowing.
If there is a change in the government of Iran it is quiet possible Iranian oil production will eventually go UP.
It is also quite possible it will go down in the sort term.
However, IF the government of Iran becomes more friendly to the world in general that is good for all people.
China may not be able to buy the Iranian oil at a discount to the current market, BUT the production of oil will increase. Eventually bringing down the price.
Iran really does not have ANY friends in the world. They just had countries that would buy their oil IF they sold it cheaper than every one else.
“Putin must publicly support Iran” with lip service, which no one pays any attention to, because the russkies are pretty much impotent on the world stage after dashing their country to pieces against the pathetic brick wall of ukraine, which would be the SECOND war the russkies have lost against an apparently inferior opponent as was the case earlier with Afghanistan ...
FRUSSIA AND FIRAN
Continued... and places like X.com and some channels on YT like Redacted, Judge Andrew Napolitano, amd others will provide news reports that others leave out, intentionally or not and in their reports on Israel are already doing that.
“But who says they aren’t providing intel, AD systems, missiles, helping on logistics, etc...?”
uh, it’s the other way around: the russkies have been buying their missiles and drones FROM iran ...
Apparently not this one. You must have missed it.
“Except for their nukes”
it’s long been said that russia is essentially a third world country with nukes ... for a country that acts rationally, nukes are only useful as a defensive threat against invasion ... nukes are of no use offensively unless the goal is to destroy the earth with a nuclear holocaust ...
The Russian army is disorganized and a lot of them alcoholics, as it has always been historically. But Russia is also notoriously historically difficult or impossible to conquer. It’s the threat of their huge nuclear arsenal that is the only thing which makes them a world power, and an enemy to be feared. I would rather that Russia be allies with the U.S. again now that they’re no longer communists, since Russia does in fact have some western roots and traditions.
