The Abortion Pill Rescue Network (APRN) has surpassed a new milestone: More than 7,000 babies have been saved through its Abortion Pill Reversal (APR) protocol.
Heartbeat International, which manages the APRN, reported that the latest milestone was reached more quickly than previous ones, reflecting both increased demand and rising awareness of the reversal protocol. In recent months, inquiries from women seeking to reverse chemical abortions have risen by more than 20%, the organization said.
“Milestones like this are important as we see chemical abortion exploding across the US,” president of Heartbeat International Jor-El Godsey said.
The network offers an intervention for women who begin a chemical abortion and quickly change their minds. The protocol uses progesterone — matching the hormone naturally present in early pregnancy — to counteract the effects of mifepristone, the first of two drugs used in a typical abortion pill regimen.
If taken soon enough, typically within 24 hours, the treatment may allow the pregnancy to continue. Reversals have also been successful as late as 72 hours after mifepristone ingestion.
The program’s expansion has not gone unchallenged, according to Heartbeat International. State governments in Colorado, New York, and California have attempted to restrict or outright prohibit the use or promotion of the APR protocol, claiming it lacks sufficient scientific basis — despite peer-reviewed studies showing a success rate of over 60 percent and no increased risk of birth defects.
Meanwhile, APR has also faced suppression online. Google removed ads promoting the APR hotline, and Facebook has deleted posts and pages affiliated with Heartbeat International, often citing fact-checkers with ties to abortion advocacy groups.
“This extraordinary achievement comes amid big tech suppression, lawfare, and professional intimidation,” said Christa Brown, senior director of medical impact for Heartbeat International. “The abortion rhetoric pushed by media and pro-abortion medical organizations, as well as the litigation aimed at APR, only underscores this great success.”
The network now includes over 1,000 healthcare providers, pregnancy centers, and pharmacies, offering services across all 50 states and in nearly 100 countries.
Cindi Boston, vice president of Heartbeat International, emphasized the emotional toll many women experience after taking the first abortion pill.
“These moms hesitantly take the first chemical abortion pill, with thousands telling us they feel immediate regret,” she said in the release. “We celebrate the remarkable growth of Heartbeat’s Abortion Pill Rescue Network and the miracle moments where reversal saves beautiful babies.”
