I don’t know if you’ve noticed this, but in my lifetime the U.S. has been flooded with immigrants almost entirely from dysfunctional, poverty-stricken places.

True, but then it makes no sense that we’d be behind in every objective measure if they’re still trying to come here. It’s because we’re not behind, compared to where they’re coming from.
