Back then I also liked Vonda Shepherd.
Saw her in concert at Stegeman Coliseum, UGA, Athens, GA, during 1976 and at Reynolds Coliseum, NCSU, Raleigh, NC in 1980. Her earlier folk roots got me interested in Old Time/ Mountain Music/ bluegrass.
I saw her name out of the blue. At first I thought you were going to tell me something happened to her. First Sly Stone, then Brian Wilson... I just didn’t know.
Wow! A fellow Arizonan!
Blue Bayou, one of my all time faves.
Very talented but leftist scum.
Difficulties with romance, and unfortunate choices in politics. But I'm willing to forgive her personal choices for the fact that she gave the world a lifetime of outstanding musical achievement.
Agreed.
You don’t now? I listen to her a lot.
That was great
Saw her live at the Universal Amphitheater in LA during the “Get Closer” tour in 1984. She could still belt it out then.
I agree. Such a beautiful and versatile voice.
My dad loved her music, too.
She's so far left she could make leftist scum puke.
She gave comfort to California’s young Governor Jerry Brown long ago.
It’s such a shame she had some a terrible weight management problem. She was quite the looker back in the 70s.
“gave comfort to” — LOLOL...in the “Kneepads Harris” mode?
I remember really enjoying her first band “The Stone Poneys,” especially “Different Drum” in June 10067. It was written by Michael Nesmith (later of the Monkees). It became their signature hit, reaching No. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 in late 1967.
The Stone Poneys, formed in Los Angeles with Ronstadt, Kenny Edwards, and Bobby Kimmel. They released three albums between 1967 and 1968 on Capitol Records. Their sound was rooted in the folk-rock movement, influenced by artists like Bob Dylan and the Byrds, with Ronstadt’s emotive vocals as the centerpiece.
Such amazing music in my Junior high school year back then!
Indeed she was stunningly beautiful. Every hetero guy I knew had a crush on her, or at least found her image useful for personal activities.
She certainly had difficulties with interpersonal issues, didn't like being used as a sex object, and it wouldn't surprise me if her gaining weight in later years was a defense against that. But that's speculation.
More tragic, in my opinion, was her misfortune in terms of losing her ability to sing due to the neurological problems that robbed her of her voice and physical abilities, to the point where she wasn't even able to attend her own induction into the R&R Hall of Fame in 2014.
