Brings back memories. Not necessarily good ones.
The 50s was a great decade. Everybody was horribly fatigued from WW II and wanted global and domestic peace. The McCarthy era tamped down the communist radicals that had been active from 1919 to just before the war and most Americans thought global communism was a real threat in the 50s.
Then the race riots of the 60s started with the Harlem Riot of 1964, which began on July 16, 1964. The Harlem riot resulted in one death, over 100 injuries, and significant property damage, with hundreds of arrests. The Harlem Riot is often seen as a precursor to the wave of urban uprisings that followed throughout the 1960s, including the Watts Riot in 1965 and the Detroit Riot in 1967.
The Kerner Commission (established by President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1967 to investigate the causes of these riots) identified more than 150 riots or major disorders between 1965 and 1968, with 164 occurring in the first nine months of 1967 alone.
A broader estimate by economists William J. Collins and Robert A. Margo suggests there were over 750 riots between 1964 and 1971, with the majority concentrated in the 1960s.
After the race riots quieted down, the Weathermen radicals got launched and took over the leadership of anarchy. That ramped up to the Vietnam riots, the Symbioses Liberation Army and other organizations.
True domestic tranquility in the USA seems fleeting and rare.
Cycles.
Today’s left is nihilistic and hates all white Christian history and lacks a sense of humour
The 60 s were different
The leadership is often precisely the same demographic
Who are fairly muted about their kin bombing Iran surprisingly
Actual minorities have more role in it today
Thus is a much stronger problem today than the fringe weathermen and SDS and SNVCC ever were
Port Huron was silly
These folks today are more numerous and well funded and crazier and backed by most western institutions
They must be crushed
All we are saying is give peace a chance!
Another Kent State would be good.
The Sixties protests were different.
It was not so much about ideology.
A lot of protesters had skin in the game as they did not want to go put their life on the line for a war that had NO military objectives to speak of, but was based on some stupid premise of the domino theory.
Absent of real military objectives, the reported progress of the stupid war devolved into weekly body counts in which the books were likely cooked.
Today’s protesters particularly the pro-Hamas protesters have no skin in the game.
The appear to be role playing and play acting.
They have been indoctrinated by a Marxist public school system to play stupid games and take stupid positions.
Nothing disturbs me more than to see school projects where kids are role playing slavery or even stupider role playing homeless people by sleeping in cardboard boxes.
When I see some of these protesters, I see them play acting as they have been taught to act out social issues as if it is somehow socially redeeming when in fact they are simply indoctrinated puppets of those with a much larger and darker agenda.
Bunch of commies.
There are some fantasizing anti-war protesters here, who, like liberals in the past, seem to imagine that there is no warrant for the US to be the world’s police, that is can exist in extreme isolationism, letting the Chicoms, militant Muslims; fanatical Kim robots and their ali Putin to do their thing, as if in a dozen or so years the Us would be faced with a word dictating its terms to the US. But, since it overall is at war with God, maybe is should stand down anyway.
Now imagine how it felt to be involved with the day-to-day grind of fighting and surviving and coming home to that.
Our country really failed us.
