To be moved in you are correct.

If they are already there is it another matter.

“It’s gated with 2800 single family homes.”

And No CDD?

But eventually:

“Nice development you got there. Be a shame if something happen to it.”

“Say did you know by the new county ordinances your driveways are 1/2” too wide, your septic pipes 1” too narrow and your electrical supply has the wrong type/brand/color etc. of transformer?”

“We’re working with your management company to address these issues”

“We’ve extended the 90-day variance to 120 days out of consideration for the residents”

“Failure to comply will assess a $5000 daily fine per violation

Sorry, but I see HOAs, developments and ‘communities’ as giant attractants for criminals to muscle in on and rob, extort and make a living off of. Stealing from neighbors, justifying it with “community” is the new American way. It takes a village ...to plunder your assets.

America is no longer a Christian or even a religious nation. It is a secular humanist kleptocracy.

I have been kicked out of two rentals because of a change in owners’ circumstances. I like my acre of land and my garden. I need them. So it’s ownership for me as long as I can.

No CDD. I heard those are bad. America will be fine. America was always agnostic which is why the first thing they did was put the separation of church and state as priority.

“America was always agnostic”

Incorrect assertion. America was always religious. The “separation of church and state” was claimed much later and is assumed to mean something it does not. The founders did not want church doctrine and clergy influencing or having a say in government as it did in England, France, etc. They wanted the government to be representative of the citizens and leave religion to private lives. The duties and obligations for one’s salvation were personal, not the state’s function.

Replacing morals with values was never intended. It is disastrous.

Example: Movies and media. Movies used to have morality-based characters. Now they have values-based characters. The first characters are moral according to formal, universal tenants, the second are amoral based upon “what’s good for me is good, what’s bad for me is bad.” Modern characters in media typically lie, cheat, deceive, steal, betray and murder. Totally immoral. Corrupt. But they are “good”. That’s amorality. And it’s throughout the culture now. The nation and culture is subverted. It is intended and orchestrated.

You have that backwards.

They did not want the government to have a say in church matters. Which was indeed the case in Europe.

Religion in Europe is a "private matter" in that you can believe as you like as long as you do not let it influence your actions, teach it to your children or tell anyone one about it or practice any of the rituals anywhere but in your own house with the shades drawn.

In the US the entire thing was turned around. You were allowed, even encouraged to bring your religion out and parade it around the public square.

People could accept or reject it as they wished but you need not keep it secret.

HOAs are evil and should be illegal.

Uh - can anybody explain to me how this lady is a "Vietnam Veteran"? The article doesn't say anything about her service and all I ever saw were a few nurses in Danang and some Donut Dollies (red Cross volunteers).

There were absolutely no females of any description in the field.

A CDD is basically a bond for use by the developer for maintenance and improvement of many community features and services. The really bad ones are the ones which the developer agrees to take on expenses normally covered by the county in incorporated areas, such as street lighting, sewage, road paving, electrical mains, telephone etc. It’s done to to fast track county approval of the development. Which usually occurs in new, outlying areas.

CDDs usually have gotchas like “oh, the county just informed us the [cheap] wire we used to hook homes up to the grid is not up to code and needs to be replaced. CDD will cover the expense and assess $5700 to each property to cover it over 20 years. It’s an open-ended right to ‘upgrade’ community features and facilities and attach the costs onto the community’s bond everyone has to pay.

NO condos, no places with an HOA, etc.

That one rule can save you from endless headaches and unlimited financial losses.

The laws regarding condo associations and HOAs are heavily tilted in favor of the associations, and if the condo board decides that everyone should pay for brand new roofs and repaving you are stuck writing the check for whatever your share of the costs is.

There is nothing wrong with living temporarily in a place where others are in control, and that might be a good way to enjoy a rental cottage on the beach that will get destroyed in the next hurricane, but if you are buying real estate make sure you actually own and control the property.

“They did not want the government to have a say in church matters. Which was indeed the case in Europe.”

I disagree. Governments in Europe in the 17th and 18th centuries certainly had a say in church matters for those of the wrong sect.

Was religion in Europe “a private matter” for the English Pilgrims, the Huguenots, Puritans, Quakers, English Catholics, the Amish, Radical Pieists, etc.? They all fled Europe to America to escape church-sanctioned, government persecution and civil war in Europe.

Religion is an individual’s chosen path to salvation. Government is simply a necessary evil, not a path for salvation.

Religion comes first and is not to be subjected to the will of government just as one’s soul is not be subject to the will of the world.

I do own a “vacation/retirement” property, still subject to whims of the county. I understand, there’s peace of mind in owning a roof over your head. There’s also freedom in being able to walk away.
