IF Negro rioters demeaned the cause of nonviolence, that was not in most cases their intent. The majority of plunderers and burners in American cities last week were about as ideologically motivated as soldier ants. Many, to be sure, were venting the longstanding resentments of black Americans in a white society. But the Negro looters were predominantly driven by a combination of self-help and help-yourself. What of Martin Luther King? “His death just gave us an excuse,” said Ronald Rudolph, 22, in Pittsburgh. “I never did dig the man much when he was alive.” When a well-provisioned Harlem “liberator” was asked why he was stealing, he cried: “It’s because they killed what’s-his-name!” “You know why people loot?” explained one young rioter. “Because they ain’t never, so long as they live, gonna have enough money to buy a color-television set. Man, I got big ambitions but not much will power.”

“...What of Martin Luther King? “His death just gave us an excuse,” said Ronald Rudolph, 22, in Pittsburgh. “I never did dig the man much when he was alive.”...”
Hell, Rudolph, you wasn’t even born when he was killed...LOL
The dateline on the story is April 19, 1968. It’s from way back when Time was a news magazine.
Machines powerful and adaptive enough to do the work only men used to be capable, virtually autonomously. Global communications. Space travel. Birth control.
Give me a break. These things are new, with serious social implications. Yet people at heart are the same. We don't yet know how to adapt to these changes without destructive multigenerational consequences. It is why we still should look to the Torah, despite the seemingly declining value of its instructions. Such is hard to teach to our children faced with so many attractions. It is why love of the Lord must come first.
Yep. I had to look at the dateline because right from the start of the article it didn’t appear to be in context with current events.
HOWEVER, it does show a striking similarity to what we have seen in the last decade. Even if you exclude the stuff from before 2019 and the summer of love as “civil rights” at it’s hear with the peaceful side being hijacked by anarchist leftists, the summer of love stuff wasn’t even under the guise of civil rights, nor is the current garbage in Los Angeles. These people don’t even have the guile not to fly the mexican flag as they burn the city! There MIGHT be some gullible and naive people who actually think illegals who are also criminals shouldn’t be deported, but for the most part, it’s no one’s cause! There is no MLK here. There is no Rodney King. No George Floydd. Even the SOME of the people in the article from 1968 admitted that it was an excuse, but the most recent stuff exposes that even without an actual civil rights issue, the leftists who want anarchy don’t even care what issue they will try to hijack. They will go without one if they have to
It is shocking that this was Time magazine. Easy to forget it, like so many others that have fallen, was once a respectable news source.
Many, to be sure, were venting the longstanding resentments of black Americans in a white society.
I don’t think that thought even occurred as a twinkle to the ones doing damage, looting. People mad as hell agaunst injustice do JUSTICE. No politicians or judges were beaten. Angry Good people bring justice, not mayhem.
OK...Thanks...I was thinking this Rudolph guy was speaking today....
OK...Thanks...I was thinking this Rudolph guy was speaking today....
So did I, at first. That’s why I had to double-check the date.
