Wednesday, June 4, was the 21st anniversary on the bulldozer attack in Granby. The attack was carried out by Marvin Heemeyer, a Granby business owner, in armored Komatsu D355A bulldozer.
Several buildings were damaged in the rampage, including the Sky-Hi News office, a bank, a hardware store, a concrete company, a utility service center, the town hall, the police department, and a former mayor’s home. He targeted those who he felt had dealt him an injustice, the crux of which was a zoning dispute.
The rampage lasted two hours and seven minutes, ending when the bulldozer got stuck attempting to go through the alleyway of Gambles Hardware Store.
Heemeyer then killed himself with a handgun. No other deaths occurred, but an estimated $7 million in damage was done.
Granby rebuilt itself even better after Marvin Heemeyer’s rampage, as the town of Granby came together to construct a new library, town hall and several other buildings. In the 21 years since the attack, the community has come a long way, but is still healing in many ways.

They tried to drive the man out of his mind and they succeeded.
They did do him an injustice.
Ping. Seeing who’s still around at 21 years.
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) condemned the violence but expressed that “you can only push people so far, and then they start to take matters into their own hands.”
I’m still around. Not dead yet.
I’ve seen stories years afterwards and it looks like some of the places he destroyed were never rebuilt.
AI will soon make all our posts, or so I am told, in which case no one will ever die...
But it didn’t actually kill anyone.
I remember the incident but I wasn’t on FR then.
I think the author had a word limit. The article stops pretty abruptly
“Still healing in many ways “
What many ways? Serving the voters? Still serving themselves? Not quite clean of corruption?
I don’t know if you caught that the Sky-Hi News office was one of the buildings Marvin Heemeyer destroyed. The staff might not have wanted to print too much in this article and attract unwanted attention.
Count me still here.
They're fortunate Marvin didn't have a better awareness of the building basement or an accomplice with a second killdozer.
Wow, this is weird! I signed up on FR on June 4, 2004! I’d been lurking quite a while. Maybe the Killdozer story finally got me to sign up.

Oh crap!
My calendar must have broken again?
Batteries?
Next time, maybe I’ll get a perpetual calendar, if I can find one on sale.
Granby was and I imagine still is a very pleasant and cooperative small village of a town. The narrative is that the killdozer guy was constantly crabbing off and the town’s people grew to hate him. It was as if the killdozer guy was trying to be unpleasant. A splinter causing irritation. The town’s people grew wanted him out and not on.
As a singular, it does describe what I recall as a pattern, a conspiracy and multiple acts to aggrieve him.
At the time, having learned all the details separate from biased media reports, I recall having much sympathy.
Over the years, I've grown angry that justice was never served against those people.
