Three-year-old Madeleine McCann vanished from a Portuguese holiday apartment 18 years ago.

In the intervening years, a huge, costly police operation has taken place across much of Europe and Madeleine has became one of the most high profile missing people.

Madeleine's parents, Kate and Gerry, say all they have ever wanted is to find their daughter.

Now German police investigating her disappearance are holding fresh searches in Portugal.

On 3 May Madeleine, from Rothley, Leicestershire, is on holiday with her family at the Ocean Club in Praia da Luz, Portugal.

• Her parents go for dinner with a group of friends at a restaurant in the complex. Madeleine and her younger brother and sister - twins - stay in the apartment, 100 yards away

• The adults had devised a rota system to check on all their children during the evening

• When it is the turn of Kate McCann, she discovers her daughter, Madeleine, has gone

• Police are called and staff and guests at the complex search for her until daybreak

• Border police and airport staff are put on alert and hundreds of volunteers join efforts to find Madeleine in the following days

Incredibly rare for a child to just vanish like this I think she must have been taken via a window in the complex and whisked away. Very odd.

I do not know about Grunt Bitchin’ nor Portugal but in this country, the good ol’ USA, it is ILLEGAL to let children alone without adult supervision! I would think that in a foreign country it would be even MORE important not to let children alone! The parents are dumb-oxen!

They were on vacation and thought they were in a safe environment. They likely didn't know where to find a baby sitter, and didn't think it necessary. Yes, in retrospect it was a horrible error that they have to remember for the rest of their lives. They didn't know that someone had been watching them and must have discovered their routine. A pedophile saw the opportunity, and grabbed the child after entering by a window. The suspect, who is now in prison on other charges, reportedly told a friend that he had captured something small at the time of the disappearance.

Common behavior in Europe or used to be. You park the kids in their pram
outside the shop when shopping etc this behavior was not unusual.

I would never leave my at the time 3 year old twins unattended at anytime at that age, esp in a different country. Im sad for the parents but they are responsible for the safety and health of their children at all times at that age.

TWO guys seems to narrow it down quite a bit

But according to Wiki (for whatever that’s worth) it’s an official Scotland Yard image

Curious - COULD be coincidence - just don’t know
