Google is launching AI Mode, a new AI-powered search feature for US-based users. After a short testing period in its Labs environment, the feature will be rolling out for everyone in the coming weeks via a new Search tab and the Google app.

The company describes AI Mode as its “most powerful AI search, with more advanced reasoning and multimodality, and the ability to go deeper through follow-up questions and helpful links to the web.”

New features of AI Mode include Deep Search with longer-than-usual, report-style responses, Search Live, which enables users to talk with Search about what they see in real-time using their camera, and complex analysis and data visualization. AI Mode also connects with other Google apps for more personal context and AI-assisted shopping with try-on and Agentic checkout features.

In just a short few months regular "Search Engines" will be gone. They will all be AI with all the AI flaws and social/cultural engineering. It is going to create a false reality and feed it to us.

Agentic:

Agentic AI is a type of artificial intelligence that can make decisions and perform tasks autonomously, without human intervention. It utilizes advanced techniques like machine learning and natural language processing to adapt and solve complex problems in real-time.

Google is relatively bad in the Generative AI game versus others.

Microsoft is much further ahead.

Everyone who demanded that Big Tech be broken up by the govt - because the Justice Dept would NEVER play politics - behold the destructive waves of capitalism.

I find Grok to be an advanced search engine.

My concern is directed searches, where the results I’m looking for will not be available to me because it goes against the agenda of Big Tech to know.

I see it being utilized on Google already, for the past few months. They don’t give you a choice on my phone.
I can’t remove the AI app, just like I can ignore, but not remove the Facebook app.

Google AI has a very high rate of factual errors that are easily verified with public data. For example it repeatedly puts a Georgia city in the wrong county such as Griffin in Carroll County.

Given its track record for factual data, it is not worth trusting for opinions, evaluations. A large number of IT workers are not concerned about GIGO. That trait seems to be passed on to AI.

That is exactly my worry too. Changing or omitting of history and facts to fit an agenda of social engineering. Literally changing reality itself and creating a false reality.

Reprogramming us...

The new big beautiful bill will prevent any state for 10 years putting restrictions and other concerns in legislature toward AI development. The feds always know best, remember that!

Google has been doing this for awhile now. And just a few year back you could actually find exactly what you were looking for on google. Before they decided to tell you what they think that you should be looking for.

Yeah, I am absolutely not happy about that part... How did that get in there I wonder? Maybe because the crew around Trump is a tech cabal?

If you dont like the ai in searches. You can use something like adguard, and use their individual item block feature to block the ai button in the search page search box- you have to be cafeful thouhg not to block the whole search box, move the block items feature around till it just selects the ai button in the search box, choose it an select “block”- i hzx tk do that for another search engine as i ,ept hitting the ai button by mistake- kt got annoying, so i blocked the button a,together. It wasnt google search though which i don’ t use or like.

Given the Google license agreement on gmail, I’ve stopped using Google products. Not only can they read your private emails, they can use or sell that information as they see fit. Read your license agreements carefully.

Yes, and not just google. The others are doing it also. Even Brave. Some are even limiting the number of results so that you can’t even go deeper to page five to actually find the good stuff...
