334-pound man sues Walt Disney World over injuries sustained on waterslide that allegedly didn’t support his weight

A man allegedly injured after an ill-fated trip down a waterslide at Walt Disney World is suing the theme park giant for $50,000 in damages — even though he was more than 30 pounds over the ride’s weight limit at the time.

In the lawsuit filed last Thursday, Eugene Strickland claims he is still struggling with the aftermath of “catastrophic injuries” he sustained after riding the Downhill Double Dipper at Disney’s Blizzard Beach Waterpark in July 2021.

At the time, Strickland weighed 334 pounds, according to the complaint, which put him just over the ride’s 300-pound limit. It is unclear if he was warned about or aware of the weight limit before going down the slide.

Strickland allegedly “became momentarily airborne” on the waterslide before eventually landing “with force onto the hard plastic surface of the slide” after losing control of the inner tube he was riding in, according to the complaint.

“Stupid and fat” should hurt, because “stupid” already should hurt.

Strickland allegedly “became momentarily airborne”

That sounds incredibly freeing.

Strickland should pay Disney for an experience “stupid and fat” can't normally have.

10% over the already generous weight limit isn’t “just over.”

334 lbs going airborne and crashing down is pretty extreme. That would hurt on a good day.

Just set up an appropriately sized door frame that all riders have to pass through to get on the ride.

Only 34 lbs. over the limit doesn’t seem like a big enough safety margin to me. But they would probably get sued by someone anyway if they reduced the weight limit to 200 lbs.

It’s Disney. Give him $50 million.

WDW should just put up a sign at the main entrance to cover every possible problem:

“Welcome to Walt Disney World, Enter at your own risk!”

He wasn’t “just over” the weight limit. He was 10 per cent over the limit with lard to spare. He endangered children and others using the slide.

the 334 pound man should be sued by Disney World for breaking their ride, and extra damages for the emotional distress of having to see someone so gross!

"Strickland allegedly “became momentarily airborne” on the waterslide before eventually landing “with force onto the hard plastic surface of the slide” after losing control of the inner tube he was riding in"

$50k? Too bad there isn't a video of this for America's Funniest Home Videos (is that still on?). He might end up with more Disney money.

Strickland weighed 334 pounds, according to the complaint, which put him just over the ride’s 300-pound limit.

More than 10% over the max is not "just over".

Did he lie about his weight or not mention it when he took the slide? If the signage states the weight limit and he ignored it, it ain't Disney's problem.

“It’s Disney. Give him $50 million.”

-

I dunno about that.

I had a pipefitter that worked in my building back in the 90s.
He and his wife went to DW one weekend. Our town is only 2 hours from there.

She had a slip and fall incident and they thought they hit the lottery.

I turned out that during the course of the case DW had multiple private investigators monitoring her every movement.

One day their lawyer called saying DW wanted to meet with them.
They thought they were in for a big payday.
The walked into the conference room with their ONE lawyer to a room of TWENTY DW lawyers and proceeded to show them video of the wife doing physical things while claiming she was incapacitated, such as lifting a large full cooler into the back of a van and other things.

Their lawyer advised they immediately drop their claim which they did. However, DW billed them for ALL the time both the private investigators and the lawyers spent on the case.

It put them in a financial hole for a very long time.

Moral of the story is “the mouse” has fangs and is expert at fraudulent injury claims in their parks.

True story, every word.
