“How do you get more color in red onions?”

Are you talking about the package of onion ‘bulbs’ that are usually red, white and yellow, mixed? Or did you buy the long, slender onions that are a small bulb on one end and greens on the other?

You can’t really ADD more ‘red’ to onions, so if you want deeper red onion, you’ll need to buy a different variety. I’m pretty positive that soil PH and fertilizing won’t change their habits.

I need a little more info, Please. :)

It was a little package of small onion bulbs, bought at Lowe’s, but all red, not mixed. I don’t remember if there was a variety name listed, could be a different variety from what we’ve tried in the past. Those ones usually ended up with lots of red color, but they never really formed decent bulbs no matter how long we left them in the dirt.

We live in southern Arizona, west of Tucson, Zone 9, I think. We planted these onions around mid-March, and the weather hasn’t been all that hot yet except for a couple of days around 105.
