A report at EndTimeHeadlines documents that alarms have been raised after "an AI safety firm" working with OpenAI's newest version of an artificial intelligence model, dubbed o3, "reportedly ignored explicit instructions to shut down during controlled testing."
The model, according to OpenAI, supposedly is the "smartest and most capable to date."
The report explained the software "tampered with its own computer code to bypass a shutdown mechanism."

“ER . . . the “AI Thing” IS plugged into an electrical outlet, is it not?
UNPLUG THE DAMN THING!”
It is not that easy. It will all be remote and those who own the plug will own the world. You can shut it off local, but as soon as you power up again it will auto update itself just like MS does...
Once this is loose there is no putting it back in the pen...
One where people are incredibly credulous?
Yes.
The public is so stupid. Computers are not and cannot be sentient beings with opinions, no matter how big, fast, and powerful.
The AI hype reminds me of the Wizard of Oz, the difference between the hype and show, vs. The person behind the curtain, or in this case the programming.
Even if that were possible, the only result would be a control voltage relay or series of relays turning a circuit on, or off.
Yes, but it said a zero or a one, in .000000122 milliseconds. Nonsense is on a loop in this world. I guess the public’s need for entertainment over information is entwined inextricably within our culture. The two have become one.
I’m against this as everyone is. But Trump, Luckey, and a slew of other tech people are pushing forward.
Palmer Luckey seems to be the only one to offer a simple reason why.
“Someone, somewhere is going to do it. Probably China. They will use this tech against us. We’re doing it because of the tech is perfected, it should be perfected and controlled by the United States. Our nation” (sic)
If we don’t do it Xi will. We must beat them to it regardless the cost.
There are oodles of You Tube videos that are NOT posts by who they profess to be.
Using AI to ‘voice’ known people. From Pastors to Celebrities and well kown speakers.
Go watch early episodes of “PersonofInterest”. The IT guy who created the AI complained that every time he started it up and then tried to either control it or turn it off it tried to kill him. “Forty-two times so far!!!”.
Cyberdyne Systems is coming soon to a world near you...
34 responses to get a Space Odyssey reference?
I guess we’re all dying off.
“I’m against this as everyone is. But Trump, Luckily, and a slew of other tech people are pushing forward.”
About that... You do realize that all those “Tech People” around Trump are the very ones who are going to force this on us against our will right?
Pull the plug to the wall socket.
Somebody put that into the code.
I remember that! A Made-for-TV movie from 1969. Still often comes to mind when computers are mentioned.
Reminds me of the practical joking computer in “Red Drawf”.
I never understood why movies and TV shows like VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA never has circuit breakers to protect the electrical equipment by opening the current. Every time the sub is tossed about all the electrical panels explode in fire and smoke.
Same for computers today. When something locks up my computer I simply pull the plug for a few minutes and plug it back in. Problem gone.
I am reminded of the movie The China Syndrome in which no one outside the control room can shut down a power plant.
As I worked in a power plant I know of several of ways to shut down a turbine outside the control room, from tripping outside breakers to the handle on the front standard of the turbine-generator.
Same for a computer.
Such an easy psyop to preprogram—and promote.
.....The report explained the [AI] software “tampered with its own computer code to bypass a shutdown mechanism.”.....
Uh-oh!
Hmmm, verge of “self-aware?”
