Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in a statement on Wednesday that the Russian delegation led by President Vladimir Putin's aide Vladimir Medinsky is ready to present a memorandum to Ukraine on June 2 in Istanbul.

"The Russian side, as agreed, promptly developed a corresponding memorandum, which sets out our position on all aspects of reliably overcoming the root causes of the crisis. Our delegation is ready to present this memorandum to the Ukrainian delegation and provide the necessary explanations during the second round of resumed direct negotiations in Istanbul next Monday, June 2," the Russian diplomat stated.

Russia will demand Ukraine pull out of the 4 Donbas regions like they consistently have
(Ukraine now controls less than 30% total)

They won’t and that will be the end of that

Assuming that Z-man doesn’t open his mouth and sabotage the talks before they begin (ie Russia will never have Crimea)

Which, of course, is a nonsensical position that is totally detached from reality. No nation is going to “withdraw” and surrender a city of 800,000 people. It seems many are blissfully unaware there wasn’t even a fake Stalinist “vote” in that city conducing by Putin’s regime.

In fact it is Putin’s regime that is deliberately “sabotaging” these talks before they begin with insane Hitler in the bunker demands.

Sadly, it seems clear that many do not have the basic facts at hand here. Perhaps its best they do their homework before commentating on a topic they clearly haven’t the faintest clue about.

Too right.

Putin’s army haven’t even managed to get with twenty miles of the outer limits of the city of Zaporizhzhia yet.

Putin’s “capitol” of the Oblast is in effect a depopulated town in the Melitopol Raion - population was approx 277,000 before the Russian occupation, and is substantially less than that after the convoys of people escaping the Russian occupation that went north to the city of Zaporizhzhia and its surrounding areas.

Never mind the Ukrainian stats - claiming with some credible evidence at least that over half the population headed north to safety in 2022 - but it’s far more fun to observe that some Russian talking heads are currently claiming its population has increased to about 250,000 (as of March 2025). That represents an implausible 80% growth from Russia’s claims last year that it had “grown” to 140,000.

One can only conclude the Russian occupiers either had to bus in 110,000 soldiers and settlers from mainland Russia to make their own lamentable statistic look better, or (more likely) they’re just flat out lying yet again.

The population of Ukrainian held Zaporizhzhia Oblast has grown since 2022, with people from Mariupol and Melitopol heading there. By contrast, at a push, there are 400,000–600,000 people living or stationed in the occupied areas of Zaporizhzhia Oblast.

Occasionally, Russians are told by Muscovy’s Fiction Factories that the figure across the entire Russian held parts of the Oblast is more like 500,000 to 800,000. Perhaps they’ve added military personnel and people being bussed in from Russia on the promise of free beach-front property nicked from the Ukrainians who fled.

Given the pre-war population of the Oblast was 1.63 million, and considering that the Ukrainian-controlled area includes the largest city which had over 700,000 on its own, even the most conservative and pessimistic estimates are that between 800,000–1 million people remain in Ukrainian-held areas.

So, even if you put Russia’s most wild, most exaggerated boasts against the most pessimistic Ukraininan stats, it’s still the case that the Russkie occupiers (whether there willingly or forced to go there, and the Russian sympathisers, and all of the people (like in Enerhodar) who couldn’t get out but would if they could, all put together, are still outnumbered by the Ukrainians in Northern Zaporizhzia... ALL of whom are where they want to be. (On the Ukrainian side of the contact line.)

The land area doesn’t matter half as much as population density. A vatnik putting a flag up in a very large, empty field or a town whose population went from 12,000 to 400 people because the Russians were headed there and even the Russian Ukrainians decided to book it into Ukrainian held territory because they love their Russian brothers THAT MUCH, is not something to boast about.

So there is not a single cat in hell’s chance that Ukraine will sign over the north of the Oblast without a fight. There’s a reason Russia hasn’t taken that area already - they literally do not have a hope in hell of even stepping foot into it, let alone occupying it.

Especially not when thousands of people from Melitopol and other cities who did not fight back when Russia occupied their cities, experienced such deep joy at how the Russians ran things that they’ve fled to Northern Zaporizhzia.

maybe not up to speed on WW II. I do not remember any demands by Hitler when he was in the final days in the bunker provided to the approaching Soviets or US.

Were there any?

Thank you but I’m up to speed on WW2. It’s been a lifelong interest of mine. Putin’s fevered dreams of genocidal Russian Supremacy are every bit as insane and delusional as Hitler. Russia’s neighbors want no part of the filth and mass murdering scum of Russkiy Mir. And that is why they defend their borders, lanaguage and culture from another invasion of Russian barbarians.

My phrasing was intended to say I’m not up to speed on WWII’s final days. Did Hitler make demands of the Soviets from his bunker? I don’t know of any but am not an expert.

So what were his demands at that time?
