President Trump’s “Golden Dome” plan has riled the three countries whose weapons technology poses the greatest threat to American territory, with China, Russia and North Korea claiming the missile-defense project is driving a dangerous new arms race.
-snip-
North Korea slammed the Golden Dome on Tuesday as the “largest arms-buildup plan in history.” China and Russia in a joint statement earlier this month called the project “deeply destabilizing.” Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, in a briefing to journalists Tuesday, said the plan “represented a direct disruption to the foundations of strategic stability.”
All three countries have also denounced Trump’s call for space-based interceptors, saying they risk turning space into a battlefield.

“You Americans are threatening the accepted policy of mutually assured destruction!”
lol. “Man, that’s goblin-orc thinking.” Gandalf
When you start this ABM stuff, it’s very destabilizing. Adversaries become unsure of reaching a target. So you start getting MIRVs, hypersonics, cruise missiles, and a massive number of warheads to hopefully overwhelm the system.
By the end of the cold war, the Soviets were up to 40,000 warheads and we were up to something like 35k. That’s compared to around 5500 for both of us today.
ABM sounds nice, but it’s like the old 10 round magazine limit in 1994. They expected manufacturers to build regular old full size pistols and stuff a 10 rounder in them. But locked into ten rounds, there was an explosion of very compact pistols, CCW became a thing. There was a renaissance
of revolvers and 1911s. And as long as you could only have 10, you got bigger calibers in small pistols.
Unintended consequences are a thing. The Rand Corporation and Herman Khan explored this in debt. We are getting a 2 trillion dollar defense program, that is destabilizing and not needed.
MAD has worked fine since the early 1960s.
Although, when we were depending on MAD, we and the Brits and Germans made a point of not shooting cruise missiles at Russian nuclear bases, early warning radars and even Moscow.
So maybe we do need one.
But I think it’s morally wrong to cover DC with it. This is their war, they should enjoy the warmth.
You can do it with a couple of missiles, say if the Norks or Iran shot a few. But you aren’t stopping a few thousand ICBMs, combined with sub launched hypersonics and FOBS coming in over the southern hemisphere.
Not without an absolutely unprecedented and massive investment in interceptor missiles, warships, and south facing radars and satellites.
2 trillion if it’s a penny. Probably far more than that.
Bankrupt them? You might want to review the fact that the USA is the greatest debtor in all of human history. It is impossible to pay off at this point without utterly drastic changes to our society.
National default is assured.
When we bankrupted the USSR, we were the largest creditor in the world.
I don’t see why use don’t just use alien technology from the tic tack UFOs
Better defense than trillions on bird-chopping windmills and acres of solar panels to fight globull warming.
This may just be the Dutch in Donald fascinated with the title: “Gold!”
When you find out all your equipment is futile just dang it.
Right.. Russia and China never bought into the mutually assured destruction (MAD) doctrine - we were always the mark in that con job.
