Well God bless her!
I can remember back in the 80’s some Philly cop arrested former heavy weight champion Smokin’ Joe Frazier for suspicion of DUI because he was slurring his words when he was stopped. Of course, that was because he was punch drunk, and he beat the rap. Hopefully, sweet Mary Lou can do the same. I’ve been stopped a few times for suspicion of DUI when I was stone cold sober just because I was driving late at night at the end of the month. At the end of the month, cops are trying to make their monthly quotas.
Yeop. Got stopped when I jerked the wheel while reaching for a french fry at 130am after working a ten hour night shift at my aerospace mfg job. Just minutes earlier I purposely held my place at a stop light so the blinding headlights of the cop behind me would go tf around me. He didn’t. When the cop finally pulled me over I was good and pissed off. He said he pulled me over for one of my license plate lights being out. Fine. Ok. Whatever. “Just do what you got to do and get me out of here”, I said. The very last thing he said after running my ID was “have you had anything to drink tonight, sir?” To which I said through a mouth full of fries: “HELL NO!”. Took my ID from him and off I went. Got just a warning. Dude was just doing his job...but he got my hangry tude. Screw it.
I have been pulled over 3x because they thought Iwas drunk. All 3x there waa nothing to drink that day so I was not worried about blood alcohol level. The first time Ierroneously thought I saw a pothole (it was ashadow of some nearby object with weird midnight lighting) and I swerved. They made me do a sobriety test and quickly sent me back on my way. The 2nd time I had been going 5 over the speed limit & he thought I was unsteady & suspected drunk driving. Well the road was bumpy. We talked for about 1 minute and it was obvious that I was not drunk. The last time it was on a windy road where whenever the edge looked too close/dangerous I crossed the dotted line for the 2 lane road. We had a 2 minute discussion about my lane being wide enough the whole way and if I had to slow down under 5 mph out of fear to do so & not cross the dotted line. I told him I would follow his advice and put my hazard lights on right afterwards if I slowed down that much. He then told me that it was obvious I was not drunk.
In all 3 cases the cops asked for license, registration, and insurance. No issues anytime where they wanted a breathalyser.
Simple guideline for me - no driving within 3 hours of last drink & 1 hour extra for every drink beyond the last one. Its best to just drink at home or drink away from home of not driving. When I lived outside the US I never drove so this rule was easy.
