I CANNOT IMAGINE THE PREMATURE BATTERY REPLACEMENT THIS CAUSES.
As a retired auto technician, I have often thought the auto industry should have hired a few less engineers & a few more technicians. This automatic stop-start thing sounded stupid from day one. Sure it might save a little gas, but what other possibilities for problems? You could stay home & save gas, too. There are some other design features that would do well not to have been put in production as well. Maybe some of these were pushed onto engineering by sales?
And starter motors.
ASS is actually a very complicated thing. A lot of components had to be modified.
Single worst idea ever. Square tires would be the second.
I see this all the time on Subaru forums. The common thread is that the people with premature battery failure don't disable their auto stop/start. I put an Autostop Eliminator in my Forester and have never had a battery issue.
My 2015 F150 SuperCrew has the feature. I'm still on the original battery. It takes merely a button push to disable it.
My wife’s 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee has this annoying feature. We had to replace the battery a year ago, and found Jeep’s solution was to add a separate, second battery just to run the starter motor. Cost over $400 to replace both batteries. Totally NUTS!
for me, it is the starter wear that is the bigger concern.
