Rep. Thomas Massie: "Mr Speaker, We're not rearranging the deckchairs on the Titanic... We're setting course for the Iceberg!"
X / U.S. Congress ^ | May 22 | Rep. Thomas Massie

Posted on 05/26/2025 3:55:01 AM PDT by RandFan

@RepThomasMassie

I’d love to stand here and tell the American people “we can cut your taxes and increase spending and everything will be fine.”

But I can’t because I’m here to deliver a dose of reality about the ticking debt bomb known as the “Big Beautiful Bill.”

This moron is probably 200 votes short of whatever he would vote for. He doesn’t understand how this all works.

Unfortunately the reality is that he does understand how it works, and there are 400+ who do not. Compound interest mathematics are beyond most.

It will not end well.

Massie does not oppose the use of baseline budgeting, either.

Massie has a point, but - and it’s a big ‘but’ - what he’s asking for would never get through the Senate, and would certainly not pass muster as an actual budget where 60 votes are needed.

You have to obtain what’s possible within the constraints that exist. And thanks to voter fraud in many states, there is no supermajority in either chamber so what is possible is a lot less than ideal.

I trust President Trump over lying thriving politicians especially grandstanding, deep state controlled, rinos.

Bingo.

He is an MIT trained engineer. He knows the math.

The rest are immersed in problems they understand, politics.

There is no merit, none whatsoever, in legislation carefully crafted to pass both houses that worsens the problem. If your choice is worsen the problem for later vs face a less severe problem now, and “later” is defined as September, then now is the right time.

Everything depends on one factor:GROWTH

If the GDP grows at 4% or more, and if we use the increased revenue wisely (to reduce the debt), we may survive.

If not, and the debt grows exponentially, we are doomed.

I believe Pres Trump understands this.

But does Congress?

“ did he present an alternative bbudget for reconciliatioon?”

Find the $4.7 trillion in non-TAS payments and cancel them and you just fixed the budget. Maybe that is where the $4 trillion in debt ceiling increase is coming from.

Do Massie & Paul?
I think the growth aspect is front and center for Trump & his cabinet. Bessent said recently growth is the only way out of the debt spiral, when coupled with elimination of waste, fraud, redundancy and with cutting spending. Focus on spending only and the ship of state will continue to sink.

Massie Isuffers from the same trust issues as many of us. Trump wants to have a bill that locks in most of his EOs first. This bill does that with some tweaking to the spending. It’s just enough constraint to pass using reconciliation.

Then Trump promises to use rescission to eliminate the DOGE identified waste and fraud. That doesn’t require a super majority either but passes parliamentary scrutiny. It will be much easier when it is actual, specific waste and fraud that is targeted. It stops idiots like Raskin and Swallwell from attacking with broad statements like ‘he’s cutting Medicaid’. It also forces those idiots to defend fraud and waste.

I think it is a well defined strategy, but it requires trust that more cuts will follow. Many of us are as leery also.

Rep. Thomas Massie: “Mr Speaker, We’re not rearranging the deckchairs on the Titanic... We’re setting course for the Iceberg!”

Some truth here as unless we have a unheard of amount of growth then the ice burg is just dead ahead...Still to much regulations, taxes and a host of other vexations plaguing the economy and if you are waiting on the good faith of the US Taxpayer then the ship is already sunk as the US Taxpayer is all tapped out.

You think Massie is controlled by the deep state? I’ve seen some stupid takes in this form, but this one is top five.

Massie and Paul are only serious about furthering their own fiefdoms. They watched and did nothing while we burned the last four years.

They’d rather look pretty than lift a hand to actually bring us back from the abyss. They are the reincarnation of Paul Ryan and John McCain. Until they actually show the stones to further genuine American renewal as Trump has, they deserve no respect.
