(The Center Square) - California Republicans are launching an investigation into the Low Carbon Fuel Standard update that is expected to increase the cost of gasoline by 65 cents per gallon — impacting not just California, but the parts of Nevada and Arizona that rely on the Golden State for fuel — on July 1. That's the middle of the peak summer driving season.
“CARB and the Governor pushed an expensive gas price hike behind closed doors, ignored public input, and misled Californians about the real cost,” said Senate Minority Leader Brian Jones, R-San Diego. “We believe their real goal is to drive gas prices so high that working families have no choice but to buy electric vehicles, whether they can afford them or not. The public deserves the truth, and we intend to shine a light on this radical agenda.”

Thank you very much and God bless you.
Californians seems to love giving up their money. Why stand in their way?
Your freedoms to travel and associate are being regulated out of existence.
Good to see Federal intervention on this. In reality this will not just affect Ca, Az, And Nv. It is going to affect the whole Nation and everyone will be paying more. I’m calling it now, if this increase happens the oil companies will price fix and raise prices across the Nation. They are opportunists and they always do for every reason they can. They will make up for their losses in sales in these States by raising prices in the other States.
The real problem is, this tax is being imposed by one State onto other states. Why should Citizens of two other States pay taxes to the Sate of California? Does Ca have a Constitutional right to levy taxes on another State against their will?
Lets see if the Trump administration does anything.
This violates the constitution.
Sean Duffy better swing his axe.
BTW. I have contacted the congressman for this area and suggested Trump order at least one refinery built on the Yuma proving grounds. Lease the management of it to those who know.
Should read Powerless California Republicans are launching an investigation.
Nothing will come of it - and the tax will go through, along with more of same.
Whether anyone knows it or not but, they exempted CA from regulations on, i believe, the clean air act.
So CA can do whatever they want.
____Good to see Federal intervention on this.___
Hate to be the bearer of bad news, I believe it’s the state Republicans, not Federal. Says “Minority” leader in the Senate. Sorry.......don’t look good. They are powerless.
The suffering will continue until they get their crap together and change course and stop voting dim.
I would love to see a new refinery built. I researched it in depth and unfortunately found a problem. The problem is a feasible supply of crude to Az from the sources. A pipeline would also need to be built from Texas to supply that crude for refining in Az. The existing lines are already supplying refined finished product. So whether they refine it or we refine it, it really wouldn’t make much difference to the supply point of finished product.
What we really need is supply of product to the northern part of the State from the existing southern line coming from Texas. A short pipeline to racks in our town from the south would be perfect. For both northern Az and Nev supply. But the southern line alone would not pipe enough supply for all of the demand. They would have to build another southern line to Az also.
But the whole concept of what Ca is trying to do to the other states is completely unconstitutional. They will be levying taxes on other States without the right to do so. It violates both State Sovereignty and Interstate Commerce. There is no way this Tax/Toll should be allowed to ever affect other States.
Thank you for pointing this out. I read it wrong. But what they do need is Federal intervention for sure. This is completely out of hand and violates State Sovereignty and Interstate Commerce.
How can the Federal Government even think about allowing this to happen without stopping it? The Federal government absolutely has jurisdiction over these issues. In fact they already have agencies to prevent such things from happening.
"Legislators investigate 65 cent per gallon gas 'tax' hike set to impact CA, AZ, NV"
Instead of further oppressing citizens with even higher politically correct taxes, arguably an abuse of 13th Amendment's prohibition of involuntary servitude, these renegade state governments need to consider the following.
These states actually need to support PDJT47 in leading all the states to put a stop to the very corrupt, post-17th Amendment ratification (popular voting for federal senators) Congress's abuse of its 16th Amendment powers (direct taxes).
The 16th Amendment especially is not only the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow for organized crime, but has also weakened our 4th Amendment protections imo.
We'll call the repeal amendment Trump's Boston Tea Party II Amendment.
Once unconstitutional federal taxing and spend is stopped, the states would ultimately find a tsunami of new revenues that they wouldn't know what to do with imo.
"16th Amendment: The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived [emphasis added], without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration."
"4th Amendment: The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."
"Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States." —Justice John Marshall, Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.
“If the tax be not proposed for the common defence, or general welfare, but for other objects, wholly extraneous, (as for instance, for propagating Mahometanism among the Turks, or giving aids and subsidies to a foreign nation, to build palaces for its kings, or erect monuments to its heroes,) it would be wholly indefensible upon constitutional principles [emphases added].” — Justice Joseph Story, Commentaries on the Constitution 2 (1833).
The congressional record shows that Rep. John Bingham, a constitutional lawmaker, had clarified the federal government's constitutionally limited powers as follows.
”Simply this, that the care of the property, the liberty, and the life of the citizen, under the solemn sanction of an oath imposed by your Constitution, is in the States and not in the federal government [emphases added]. I have sought to effect no change in that respect in the Constitution of the country.” —John Bingham, Congressional. Globe. 1866, page 1292 (see top half of third column)
“Cherish, therefore, the spirit of our people, and keep alive their attention. If once they become inattentive to the public affairs, you and I, and Congress and Assemblies, judges and governors, shall all become wolves [emphasis added]. It seems to be the law of our general nature.” - Thomas Jefferson (Letter to Edward Carrington January 16, 1787)
Pelosi: "We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it." (non-FR; 6 sec.)
Illegals are indeed getting immediate Social Security, contrary to Democrat claims (7.11.24)
Democrats [and RINOs] Are Terrified Of An Educated And Informed Public (3.12.23)
not just this 65 cent tax needs to go , but ALL the gas taxes that extort Californians and make our gas 3 times as expensive as other states. .
There is no arguement about the violation of the interstate commerce statutes.
Per the refinery? National security. Oh it’d be a chore, but it can be done.
I’d like to see how they’d react if they lose a good portion of their water allotment from the Colorado River.
“So CA can do whatever they want.”
Within the State borderlines of Ca to their own citizens maybe. Not to other sovereign States and their citizens. This would be like Ca levying sales taxes for sales in other States. Ca does not “own” that oil just because the supply happens to pass through Ca from the coast to the other States. That would be like New Mexico imposing a Tax/Toll on the pipeline supply coming through their state from Texas to Az. Or like Az charging a Toll for every Truck that crosses through it’s State.
On Federal Authority...
Key Legal Cases
Several Supreme Court cases have shaped the interpretation of the Interstate Commerce Clause:
1. Gibbons v. Ogden (1824): This case established that the power to regulate interstate commerce extended beyond navigation and encompassed activities that had a substantial impact on commerce.
2. Wickard v. Filburn (1942): In this case, the Court ruled that Congress could regulate even intrastate economic activities if they had a substantial aggregate effect on interstate commerce.

The woke morons have ruined California, Arizona, and Nevada. Now they’re trying to infect the rest of the USA with their mental illness.
“I’d like to see how they’d react if they lose a good portion of their water allotment from the Colorado River.”
There you go... Az should impose a tax on every single gallon passing through Az to California. :)
Two can play that game...
Like i said. I believe it was the clean air act that they went back and exempted CA from. Specifically EXEMPTED, CA.
So, answer me this. How’d they get around to that?
It’d take a consortium of the upper states to accomplish that.
We can bet that NV and AZ would be for it, but i doubt CO would.
But what the hell, AZ has one of the longest shorelines of that river..
