Vance: Russia-Ukraine talks in 'a bit on an impasse'

United States Vice President JD Vance told reporters aboard Air Force Two while departing Italy after his discussion with Pope Leo on Monday, indicating negotiations regarding the Ukraine conflict have reached "a bit of an impasse."

"We realize there's a bit of an impasse here," Vance added. "Putin doesn't seem to quite know how to get out of the war. If Russia is not willing to engage, eventually the US has to say that this is not our war."

Vance said he anticipates US President Donald Trump will question Russian President Vladimir Putin about his "serious" interest in peace during their scheduled conversation later today.

The war is not done. Let them kill each other for another year or so. Ukraine will not sign on to a border change and loss of land. Russia will not give up an inch of what they took. It has devolved into a war of attrition. We can do nothing to stop the war—the fate of Ukraine will be handled in Berlin not Washington.

“Europe will get involved even if the US doesn’t at this point”

************

When Europe has to bear the full military burden their enthusiasm for deeper involvement will decline. They’d much rather keep the U.S. engaged in this never ending mess. Just saying.

JD is Donald’s water boy. He does not set Ukraine policy. Trump is getting more and more pissed off at Vlad’s non-cooperation for peace negotiations. Though Zelensky has tried to tell Trump47 that this is how fake Tsar Vlad rolls. How Vlad has always operated by deceit, in Ukraine.

Vlad would not have invaded in 2022 if Trump were president. Vlad saw pure stupidity and weakness with Biden in office. Undoubtedly Vlad had intel that Biden was non-compos mentis.

The dancing green grifter is getting thousands of Ukrainian men killed or maimed.

He’s doing it for the grift.

This is like when I see Georgia and Alabama play in football. Wish they both could lose.

Exactly. We knew it all along, but the majority of Americans found out after Zelensky’s disgraceful performance at the White House in late February.

Zelensky doesn’t care about his people. He only cares about “mah-ney” and power.

He had a nice little thing going with Biden and his henchmen and is still furious that Trump won’t play that.

And the zeepers hate V.P. Vance for calling the slimy little grifter out as he unsuccessfully tried to manipulate and finagle our leaders on live TV.

They hate President Trump too, for the same reason. They’re just dialing that back for now because a few zeepers got a time-out for yapping their insults along the lines of “Donald Chamberlain” and other such nasty, Democrat tripe.

Russia does not seem afraid of western measures, including the weaponry to date. It is hard to not see this.

Some years ago Putin was briefed by Rosneft about prospects for Russian oil and rest of the world. He has noted this in speeches. Rosneft made it clear Russia runs out last. Geography makes this clear.

This is the source of their perspective.

Vlad would not have invaded in 2022 if Trump were president.

Because Trump would never have allowed Ukraine to provoke Russia like they did with their incessant bombing in Donbas, and their military buildup in the East.

And Trump most certainly wouldn't have scuttled the peace process in Istanbul which would have ended this war with Ukraine in a much better position than it is now.

So now JD "Dunce" as you call him, is a waterboy? It's always good to see globalists crawl out from under the rocks you live under.

I don’t think so. They have, to a nation at this point, stated they see Vlad the Invader as the next Hitler after his multiple invasions. Britain, France, Belgium, Germany have all dramatically upped their military spending in the last 4 months, and Poland is gearing up to take on Russia by itself if needed. The resolve appears to be real, and they are putting money towards it now.

The obvious next move is for Europe to stop all imports of Russian oil and gas. They appear to be headed that way now. Then, if no peace expect them to ‘contribute’ to the conflict which will eventually suck in the US. Everybody has the best deal they are going to get right now. The longer it goes, the worse the eventual ‘gains’.

“dancing green grifter He’s doing it for the grift”

Yes your idol Putin is doing it for the grift. 200 billion dollars net worth is not enough for Vlad. Russia is nearly at the top, has a 154th ranking for corruption. Ukraine is 105th, not as corrupt.

Corruption Rankings: Russia vs. Ukraine (2024)
Russia

Transparency International’s 2024 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) gives Russia a score of 22 out of 100, where 100 means very clean and 0 means highly corrupt.

Russia is ranked 154th out of 180 countries, making it one of the most corrupt countries globally according to this index.

Ukraine

Ukraine scored 35 out of 100 on the 2024 CPI, which is higher than Russia’s score and indicates less perceived corruption.

Ukraine is ranked 105th out of 180 countries in the 2024 CPI.

“Ukraine to provoke Russia like they did with their incessant bombing in Donbas, and their military buildup in the East.”

You are unaware that Putin sent his own agitators, provocateurs and separatists into Donbas and nearby regions? This is why Ukraine and these paid by Putin separatists got into artillery battles.

Why you always go on about these vodka swillers being provoked? They are out provoking Finland and Poland at the moment.

True but a recent study concluded that it would take a quarter century and cost as much as $1 trillion to replace the American military support. Plus some European countries are struggling financially so this replacement would be a very heavy long term lift/burden. Much easier said than done.

580 million people in Europe. 25 years, 1 trillion, is completely within reach. Besides, it might be cheaper and better to engage Russia now than waiting until you have no other options. Politically, it will sell the military expenditure costs better as well if there is an known ‘enemy’.
