Barbra Streisand has recruited Paul McCartney to join forces for a new version of his 2012 single “My Valentine,” which was released Friday (May 16) via Columbia Records.
“What if it rained? We didn’t care/ He said that someday soon the sun was gonna shine/ And he was right, this love of mine/ My valentine,” Babs coos on the opening verse before Sir Paul, takes over to sing, “As days and nights would pass me by/ I’d tell myself that I was waiting for a sign/ Then she appeared, a love so fine/ My valentine” over a lush combination of strings and piano.
The cozy love song originally served as the lead single from the former Beatle’s 2012 solo album Kisses on the Bottom, where it was one of just two original songs on the LP and featured a starry assist from Eric Clapton on guitar.
Now, the reimagined version for two is the second preview of Streisand’s upcoming duets album, The Secret of Life: Partners, Volume Two, which is out June 27 and acts as a sequel 11 years in the making to her Grammy-nominated No. 1 LP Partners from 2014.
Ahead of releasing the duet, the legendary Funny Girl star shared a snap of the longtime friends on her Instagram, writing, “What a joy it was to record ‘My Valentine’ with @paulmccartney. To share time with him in the studio was truly special.”
Streisand’s 37th studio set will also feature guest turns from A-listers like Hozier (the previously released “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face”), James Taylor (“Secret O’ Life”), Bob Dylan (“The Very Thought of You”), Tim McGraw (“I Love Us”) and Mariah Carey and Ariana Grande (“One Heart, One Voice”).
Paul never says it outloud, but thru his actions, like this one with Bab’s show he is at home with the resistance.
Where will they do this together... I thought Bab’s moved out of the US, like a half dozen times or so ago? Canada, Britian, France? Oh, that’s right she is still here in the US.
Based upon listening to a late release of his four or five years ago Paul McCartney isn’t the singer he was. He had one of the best all around voices in the game but he releases things now that you wouldn’t expect to hear even on a quick demo.

Personally, I preferred the Joe Piscopo/Eddie Murphy rendition.

I love both Stevie Wonder and Paul McCartney, but I hated that duet.
It could be there’s so thing inherently creepy about two celebrities doing a duet in the first place. It’s all about their being celebrities and not letting the music stand on its own.
The worst ever was Mick Jagger and David Bowie. That one scarred me for life
I agree John Lennon’s solo career sucked, but then he was not a great contributor in the last few Beatle albums either. He was best in the early and mid albums where he and Paul blended together. It seems like the Beatles went their separate ways musically long before the band broke up.
McCartney’s solo albums were awesome. The wings period was not great IMHO but there were some good songs that came out of it.
George’s solo stuff was prolific and musically impressive - but I always thought it was kind of formulaic pop songs with no heart. “I got my mi d set on you” being a prime example.
George’s best post Beatles music was with the Traveling Willberries.

That song was written by someone else, and performed by James Ray. I think George Harrison was a fan.

All duets?
No, not all.
I make a distinction between two types of duets:
One is where you have a duo that sang together from the beginning, like Simon & Garfunkel, The Everly brothers, Sonny & Cher.. the list goes on.. these I absolutely love.
Then there’s what I call the over-the-hill celebrity duets, which tend to happen not because of the musical quality, but because of the name recognition - I can’t explain it.. the same thing bugs me in movies like Ocean’s Eleven or something where every single character is a past star that hasn’t had a big role for a while. It’s like a celebrity employment opportunity..
Having multiple celebrities kind of cheapens it for me - like Hollywood squares.
I also hated the “So-and -so performs for the Obamas” concerts - same kind of attention whore celebrity vibe.
I’d rather have actors disappear into their character so you can forget they are acting and get pulled into the story. Maybe it’s just me.
Same with these celebrity duets - it just seems like it’s all about the celebrities and not the music.
AND.. they do tend to be sappy and somewhat conceited.. as if we in the audience should consider ourselves lucky to be in the presence of two celebrities for the price of one.
By far my favorite recordings or videos are the early ones where they were not yet famous and that performance put them on the map. I love the old bootleg videos of Joni Mitchel when she was still in Canada and no one had heard of her. Or the debut Ed Sullivan performances..

Most definitely . Personally speaking , with the exception of 2 or 3 tracks off of Abbey Road , I never got on with any of their albums post Revolver .
