Nice roof on that sawmill!
Cool. I just wish the ad to get rid of mosquitos was legit.
Wish i had a dollar for every board ft of lumber i have sawn.
I’d be a multi millionaire.
Fascinating - thanks for the post!
Man, I can just smell that delicious freshly sawn white oak!
My grandfather worked in the Potlatch Lumber Company mill in Potlatch, Idaho from the late 20s to the 60s. Granddad actually worked in the company store, the “Potlatch Mercantile Company”. It opened in 1907 and was destroyed by a fire on January 13, 1963. About three years after it burned, Grandma and Granddad moved away from Potlatch after having been there almost 40 years. We bought a summer house in Idaho only a mile from where they retired in Hayden, ID! My wife loves it so much, she lives there full time (I come back to CA during the cold months).
The Potlatch mill was the biggest in the world from its opening in 1906 through at least the 1920s. I remember visiting the mill when I was a kid in the 50s. It was all demolished and sold off after it closed in 1981.
My uncle (mom’s brother) also spent some early years in the mill before he moved to Weyerhaeuser in Fort Worth, TX where he sold lumber. He always had good years after big tornados hit.
So lumber has always been near and dear to me.

Building a boat?
Very nice. Wished I had smellivision.
With the current funding bill in Congress, I don’t want to hear about a “big, beautiful” anything.
That was awesome.
Thanks for posting.
