Ukraine’s president confirmed on Thursday that he has agreed to send the delegation to Istanbul for lower-level talks with Russia’s representatives, but he will not be present there himself.

"Out of respect for President Trump, the high level of the Turkish delegation, and President Erdogan, and since we want to try to achieve at least the first steps toward de-escalation, an end to the war – namely a ceasefire – I have decided to send our delegation to Istanbul," Zelensky said.
Kyiv’s delegation will be led by Ukraine’s Defence Minister Rustem Umerov, Zelenskyy said, despite the fact that Umerov's Russian counterpart will not be present.

It’s totally appropriate for Zelenskyy to send his Defense Minister to head the delegation if Putin isn’t going to be there. This will actually be a higher level delegation than the one the Russians are sending.
Tell your Zelensky he should have gone to Turkey, if only for a political stunt.
Just like he used President and the White House for a Political Stunt.
Of course, Political Stunts will not change the outcome of the War.
But it might have helped him get more money from sucker EU Countries.
That comment alone indicates Zelensky doesn't want peace.
Playing games with the lives of Ukrainians.
Why should he go, Putin is not going.
Presidents don't meet like "Z" wants. He knows that's not how things work.
Zelenskyy did go to Istanbul and met with Erdogan. The Ukrainian delegation meeting with the Russians, however, will be headed by their defense minister, who is at higher level official than the head of the Russian delegation. It is the Russians who, by sending a only minor functionaries, appear not to be serious about the negotiations.

Negotiating with Zelensky is pointless.
He doesn’t fund the war, doesn’t control communications or intel, doesn’t choose targets, he doesn’t have control over the most advanced western weapons
This is a Russia-West (and as Trump has shown us, particularly EU) proxy conflict over post-Soviet spheres of influence in Eastern Europe and the Black Sea, and a standard UK effort to blunt any powerful nations on the continent.
Zelensky is there to preside over the destruction of Ukraine.
