I have known people who have taken reverse mortgages. They are simply another financial vehicle, like a life insurance annuity. It isn’t intrinsically a scam, though for all I know the company he was working for might have been no good.

They aren’t a scam but they are a terrible idea. There are much better and less expensive ways to do the same thing.

Another expensive high fee financial vehicle for those with substandard retirement plans

Reverse mortgage-- why not??

One point against is the real risk of losing one's home by failing to keep up with required payments to maintain the home, basically living too long and the front money has run out so nothing left to pay taxes and maintenance.

Reverse mortgages are not a good situation to be in but people have too much time on their hands if they are getting upset with Tom.
