I could find nothing on his image or place of birth.

A 12 years sentence seems heavy until you realize it was a federal crime that crossed state lines and EACH count can be punished by 1-7 years jail time. Guy lived like a King for years with 2 houses, yacht, cars…mostly from helping steal from poor , and working class people etc.

I’d say he got off light as a feather…then again it is “Kalifornia” we are talking about.

The buyer and their co-conspirator at the refinery should be in the cell with him.

I put VIN on my cat with a dremel tool. Of course if I catch them in the act the fire department will need a squeegee to clean up the mess…

As many lives as he affected I’d have zero problem with a life sentence. Let’s say, three months per catalytic converter. I mean, each and every one severely impacted an owner and their family. That adds up.

They don’t say how many, but I would estimate 1 to 2 million catalytic converter...meaning at least 1000 people involved.

The BIG QUESTION for me is why did it take so long to get to the top of the theft ring? Do they have Mafia-level Omerta, or something?

In any case, this is the kind of organized crime you get when the Justice Department is spending all their time hunting for phantom ‘White Supremacists” or prosecuting people at school boards for speaking out against Tranny policies.

38 million over 12 years is a pretty good rate.! How can an old guy like me get in this for a year or two....without the jail time of course.

A 12 years sentence seems heavy

Seems very very light to me. This sort of thing puts out thousands and thousands of people who get charged far more than the black market salvage value of a stolen cc. We used to shoot horse thieves. Should be about the same for something like this.

The black-market price for certain catalytic converters from California can be more than $1,000 each.

Several of my neighbors have had theirs stolen right in their driveways.

Cops come out and there's not much they can do.

There are now businesses springing up that will lock catalytic converters in place and put serial numbers on them as well.

“stealing from the poor and working class people”

No kidding. You need comprehensive coverage on your car to file a claim. Even if you have comprehensive, you have to pay your deductible (usually $250–$1,000). But lots of people forego comprehensive for lower rates.

Replacement costs range from $1,000–$3,000 (or higher for luxury vehicles or OEM parts), with averages around $2,000–$2,900 per claims data. Without comprehensive coverage, you’ll pay out of pocket, as liability-only policies don’t cover theft.

This bastard really preyed on the poor AND middle class.

Saw a recent movie starring Ray Liotta (his last before passing recently) about a plan to rob a super security facility of their bars of platinum stored in an unbreakable safe.Although that was the main story line, it changed into a weak Sci-Fi alien invasion.

I didn't know platinum was part of catalytic converters. No wonder CC's are the target of thieves.

Just imagine what it’s like if you go out to start your car and find somebody has ripped off the converter. Your car has become an instant piece of junk and if you need to go someplace, possibly to take someone to the hospital, you and your potential passenger are utterly screwed. Then you have the frightful inconvenience and expense of replacing the converter. The longer sentence this guy got the better as far as I’m concerned.

And every one of his victims really got screwed. He deserves every bit of hard time he’s going to serve and then some.

I wonder how many car owners were shot and killed or wounded by the perp and his crew in the commission of that $38 million theft.

On top of the massive inconvenience to theft victims.

He should have gotten at least on year mandatory prison for every million dollars stolen. At least 38 years, no change for parole.

Dang right it was only $38 Million, not like he robbed a corner bodega or something.
