A New Pope: 10 Convictions That Divide Protestants And Catholics
New American Prophet ^ | May 10, 2025 | PNW Staff

Posted on 05/10/2025 5:55:54 AM PDT by Rev M. Bresciani

After just two days and four secret ballots in the Sistine Chapel, the College of Cardinals elevated Chicago-born Robert Francis Prevost to the See of Peter as Pope Leo XIV—an outcome that underscores the doctrinal rifts at the heart of Christendom and the enduring reasons for our divide. Although Catholics and Protestants often use similar words and phrases, the meanings they attach to those terms are profoundly different.

Here are ten doctrinal fault lines that explain why true unity remains out of reach: while we can—and should—show mutual respect, we cannot pretend these convictions don’t exist. It’s the perfect moment to re-examine what you believe and why.

The RCC has a different gospel.

There is no compromise with a different gospel.

You have no idea what you are missing. Maligning Holy Mary Mother of God, the Queen of Heaven, is hardly a good place to start defending wrongness.

Ah, yes....perhaps the only apologetic left to the RC after the Bible and Tradition (using Rome's own rules) are against him.

You've made three errors in one sentence....actually four.

Could you help me out here?

I honestly don’t understand the “4” reference.

So much warranted Catholic bashing so often on this site because some many are being misled into believing their works will save them - along with a long list of theological errors that have poisoned their religion.

... the true church instituted by Jesus, the one Holy and Apostolic Catholic Church.

Oh, the ones mentioned in the first three chapters of Revelation?

I'm sure glad Rome thought to save these examples of doctrinal purity.

Supersizing may work for a meal at the drive up, but it's not a very good way to treat the woman who supplied the FLESH for Jesus' incarnation.

Really. Do shut up; you make my point precisely. We get it. We don’t need dime store theologians like you beating us over the head. You could post those sentiments on every thread every day for a year, and you won’t cause a single Catholic to change his or her mind. So what’s the point? If I need smug self-righteousness, I’ll call a lib; I don’t need it from you.

”So much Catholic bashing so often on this site.”

We were commanded by Jesus to spread the gospel. As an evangelical Christian when I reply to a Catholic , I do not consider it “bashing”. Rather what I say, I try to say In “love”, as I truly mean to spread the gospel, with the help of the Holy Spirit, in truth according to scripture (the Bible).

Good. You seem moved.

So what’s the point?

Let your anger be directed at the religion that has misled you. Search the Scriptures. Find the truth.

Decades ago, someone led me to do that and I escaped the stranglehold of my old, failed, and errant religion - yours now.

Bring on your numerous personal attacks again, or defend your religion. I have time.

HERE is a fun read from Catolica.com, entitled, "12 Differences Between Catholics and Christians" written by a convert TO Catholicism.

It's a pretty good summary of the errors that I constantly identify with that religion.

And WHY would anyone title an article "12 Differences Between Catholics and Christians" - is that some kind of acknowledgement that Catholics are not Christians?

I see that distinction used regularly.

You wrote: there is unity among all the really important points

No. There's not.

There's a list if "really important" differences. The first one that comes to mind is the RCC view of Mary's "immaculate conception" which many say means she was without sin. That is a "really important" difference and should be corrected by the "magisterium of the Catholic Church.
(the religion's authority that allegedly gives authentic interpretation of the Word of God, "whether in its written form or in the form of Tradition"; furthermore, according to the 1992 Catechism of the Catholic Church, the task of interpretation is vested uniquely in the Pope and the bishops, though the concept has a complex history of development".)

How did the Bereans ever get by without the magisterium, the "bishops", and a "pope"?

Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so. Acts 17:11
