Pope Leo XIV has roots in New Orleans' 7th Ward. See his family lineage and history.

Robert Francis Prevost, now Leo XIV, was named the first American pope of the Catholic Church on Thursday — and his lineage traces back to New Orleans, according to Jari Honora, a local genealogist and historian.

When Honora heard the last name "Prevost," he started digging, on the odd chance Leo XIV's paternal line might be French Canadian or Acadian with Louisiana ties. What he found, to his surprise, was that Prevost's mother, Mildred Martinez, was the one with familial cords to the city.

In less than an hour, Honora — who works as a historian for The Historic New Orleans Collection and was a researcher on the PBS documentary “Finding Your Roots” — was able to track the pope's maternal grandparents to the 7th Ward, a neighborhood long recognized as a cultural stronghold for people of African, French, Spanish and Native American descent.

I don’t know why anyone thought this interesting enough to write an article about his grandparents.

Pope Leo on gays: has spoken out against “sympathy for beliefs and practices that are at odds with the gospel,” citing the destructive “homosexual lifestyle” and “alternative families comprised of same-sex partners and their adopted children.”

While serving as a bishop in Peru, Prevost opposed govt plans to add teachings about gender in school, calling “the promotion of gender ideology...confusing” since they “create genders that don’t exist,” according to The NY Times.

Pope Leo XIV is strongly pro-life and has even marched for life.

He has publicly expressed his opposition to abortion and has been described as a “pro-life warrior”.

His social media posts and other statements indicate a strong commitment to pro-life principles.

As Obama basks in the Pope’s glow, his religious history dogs him

In 2011, Obama stripped the US Conference of Catholics Bishops of its longstanding funding for human-trafficking work because of the Bishops’ conscientious objections ......referring to “victims” of abortions.

In 2012, he had his lawyers work to strike down the ministerial exception in federal workplace discrimination law, which assures houses of worship the right to employ religious leaders according to doctrine.

Throughout his presidency, he has come under repeated criticism for his numerous aggressions on people of faith, be they rhetorical or legal.

Under Obama’s watch, the State Department stepped up to defend believers on death row for their faith – only when the noise from nongovernmental organizations grew deafening.

With regards to diplomacy with the Vatican, Obama had shown his goodwill by relocating the Vatican Embassy, to the outrage of some American Catholic groups, who considered it a major downgrade.

And then there is his position on abortion. Obama has the most extreme views on abortion of any American president, even opposing life-saving support for babies born of botched abortions when he was a state senator in Illinois.

How long has the new pope has been active in pro-life?

Cardinal Robert Prevost, now Pope Leo XIV, was co-founder of the campus right-to-life organization “Villanovans for Life”—the oldest college pro-life club in the U.S. (he was Class of 1977)!

Pope is a marcher for Life. Robert Prevost @drprevost Marcha por la vida en Chiclayo. ¡Defendamos la vida humana en todo momento!

Pope Leo XIV once retweeted news article entitled, “Catholic
group to Illinois governor: veto abortion funding bill.”

On the other hand, the same can be said for some marxist leaders in Latin America.

Unlike the US, the issue there doesn’t trend neatly left and right.

On the other hand, unlike the US, the issue doesn’t trend neatly left and right elsewhere.

In Peru, the pro-life movement actively opposes abortion and advocates for the protection of unborn life, with the legal framework reflecting this stance. The country’s legal framework extends to unborn children, recognizing their rights to life, health, and well-being. This is further supported by national laws and the Constitution, which protect the rights of the unborn from conception. While the specific implications are not explicitly defined in the context of Peru, the pro-life movement and legal protection for the unborn are integral parts of Peruvian life.

Abortion is criminalized in Peru.

While legally permitted, access to abortion when the mother’s life or health is in danger is difficult due to poor guidelines and practical challenges. Peru passed Law 31.935, which recognizes the rights of the conceived child, further reinforcing the pro-life stance.

Significantly, the UN has criticized Peru for failing to ensure
access to reproductive health services, including legal abortion.

Thanks Liz!
I think some attempt to look at the Vicar of Christ through the eyes of materialistic America. It would do us all well to place oneself back in the 1st century and understand what was going on in Jerusalem and the Roman empire.
I care about compassion, mercy and sound doctrine and thusfar I haven’t seen anything that troubles me.

“Technically, Pope Leo XIV is the first Creole pope.”

Not only that, but his grandmother was to best cook of all the pope grandmothers in history.

There’s a man in New Orleans who plays rock and roll
He’s a guitar man with a great big soul
He lays down a beat like a ton of coal
He goes by the name of Pope Creole

All of that was more than made up for by Biden.

Let’s not discount Soros and Obama’s meddling in the deposing of Benedict and installation of Francis. Now another Chicago tie in the Vactican? And Obama was one of the first noted figures to hail the new pope?

This is a political appointment, not a spiritual one. The bishops are upset that their funding for human trafficking has been cut from USAID. After all they paid out for scandal, they want a fight.
