Russia and China warned on Wednesday that Donald Trump’s proposed “Golden Iron Dome for America” missile defense system would destabilize global security and turn outer space into a new arena for armed confrontation.

“The recently announced large-scale ‘Golden (Iron) Dome for America’ program is deeply destabilizing,” the two sides said in a joint statement during a visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping to Moscow. The U.S. plan “explicitly provides for a significant strengthening of the arsenal for conducting combat operations in space,” it added.

Moscow and Beijing claimed nuclear states must “reject Cold War mentality” and avoid seeking military superiority “at the expense of the security of other States.”

Except for when "nuclear sate" Russia is "seeking military superiority at the expense of the security of" Ukraine.

“Golden Iron Dome for America” missile defense system would destabilize global security...

Only because we got it before you did, so...don't care.

‘Golden (Iron) Dome for America’ program is deeply destabilizing,

Bullstuff.

That's the same lie peddled by Kruschev, and Brezhnev, and Gorbachev ...

Not surprising to see the neo-soviets puking it up again.

We can out spend them, until we can’t.

Since it’s not an offensive weapon they shouldn’t care...unless they had plans to attack.

If we really want to ruffle China’s feathers we could put a Golden Dome over Korea, Japan and Taiwan. They wouldn’t want that, now would they?

Yep. Russia can’t possibly compete with a program of militarizing space. China could, but not while fighting a trade war.

Yeah they have nothing to worry about. It will just be a money hole like the high speed rail project. I hate to see them even spend one dime on this. It is not needed and and just like the rail project it will never be completed anyhow. Just throwing money at Military Contractors to make friends happy and rich.

Sure,

If they can pay for it, they also should build missile defense systems spanning their entire nations real estate. Hahaha

Missile defense is essential at this point. It’s long over due in fact. Obama and Biden were asleep at the wheel on this issue. What we have in place (US Navy SM and USAF Interceptors) is inadequate.

Today, we are in the era of long range missile and nuclear proliferation to where Iran, North Korea, Libya (for Europe pre-2011), all pose a threat.

Look at Israel today, they are getting bombarded from Iran and Yemen.

It takes many years to build a defensive system, but a threat nation could have access to long range missiles and even nukes in very short time.

If we do not build a missile defense system, we will eventually get black-mailed by some “$hit hole” nation with a missile where they screwed a nuke to the front end of it. God help us if they actually use it and it gets through.

The problem isn’t even Russia and China. These are the less likely nuclear threats to ever use them (to much to lose, stable, etc). But today you have Iran, North Korea, Pakistan, India, Libya was developing them pre-2011, Iraq was developing them pre-2003, Yemen has been firing them at Israel (conventional)... The point is that the long range missile and even nuclear technology has become more available even for these backward regimes.

Sitting on ones hands and ignoring the threat as Obama and Biden mostly did, is frankly reckless and irresponsible.

Do we really want to get to a point where we have morons like this deciding over our fate? https://images.marinelink.com/images/maritime/houthi-military-146155.png?_gl=1*9hcakb*_ga*NjYxOTg4MTQ5LjE3NDY3Mzc1NTQ.*_ga_C8X43VMLJ3*czE3NDY3Mzc1NTQkbzEkZzAkdDE3NDY3Mzc1NTQkajAkbDAkaDA.

It upsets their mobile attack satellite programs - not good to have their military space vehicles exposed and countered.

Things to understand.

1) Russian ICBMs are mobile. They don’t do much silo stuff.

2) Hypersonics create surrounding plasma and this is the stealthiest of stealths. Radar gets absorbed by plasma.

3) The window for intercept is very narrow. Detect launch, track to highest altitude, and as soon as it descends the plasma forms.

4) If you can’t track it you can’t intercept it.

5) If interceptors are in orbit, that doesn’t mean they hang over the US. They are in orbit. Moving all the time and sometimes below the horizon of the US. A reasonable estimate for total interceptor count such that a handful are over the coasts for sub launched intercept seems to be 2000 in-orbit missiles.

6) Price tag for 2000, even with the recent declines in launch costs . . . . $870 Billion. That would be an entire year of DoD funding.
