“ questioned the company’s purpose alongside the advent of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist drugs”
Yeah, that’s the problem right there. It should not just be about weight. That makes it sound vain. They should have taken cue from RFKj and made it more about health. Sure, losing 5% of excess weight is clinically meaningful; 10% even better. If a drug helps, well, ok it’s probably not the ideal way but that is good (not factoring for any side effects or long term after affects). But WW advertises like “eat whatever you want” - it’s not a meaningful change in approach. It’s just about the results, by whatever means.
But I guess it’s just an easier sell; or rather a harder sell to tell overweight people they need to change their lifestyle. Going Keto or Atkins or Carnivore/ caveman (they are all variations of the same basic idea) is probably more fun and fulfilling than buying boxed microwave lasagna. With Keto, you can eat as much as you want as long as it has no carbohydrates. Go ahead, eat 12 chicken legs for lunch. It’s allowed. And more fun.
So that new statue in New York came from Weight Watchers ?.
I like WW online a lot, but attending the meetings and weighing in was detrimental to the program. I hope they keep the online portion of WW. There is no way I would take the weight loss drugs unless I was desperate. Ozempic has weird side effects.
I have a friend who lost a ton of weight on WW, but only eating the 0 point foods. When she described what she ate, I’m like that is KETO, lol.
My MIL on the other hand did weight watcher for decades and lost very little. But she ate low fat, and plenty of carbs. But still stayed within her points.
She made her millions and is now knifing them. Ozempic can cripple and or kill you.
