There are a lot of people who could and would say the same things, only without the managerial/executive failings Hegseth has. The left goes after him so hard because his screwups make him the easiest target.
They hate the stuff Rubio is doing in the State department, but Rubio isn't giving them easy openings to attack him. Hegseth is.

It's pretty simple. The MIC do not get to do what they want.
We need to shrink the size of the military. And we'll shrink the MIC while we're at it.
But we should invest in drones, ships and nukes. We don't need a large standing army to defend ourselves.

Anyone who knows anything about the military knows that six month military hitches would do far more harm than good. Which means Ramasmarmy didn't bother to check with anyone who knows anything about the military because coming up with his immensely stupid idea.
First responders I know say the exact same thing applies to their jobs as well, though I can't vouch personally for the accuracy of their opinions. Six months is simply idiocy, which Ramasmarmy doesn't know because he already thinks he knows everything.
It's a joke of an idea that reveals only his own arrogance.
