To the rational, well intentioned American citizen, the issues where the Democrat party chooses to fight certainly appear ill advised.

There must be better ways to express your support for unrestricted immigration than by waxing poetic every time another vicious gangbanger is removed from the country under a clear and unambiguous legal foundation.

Abusing the court system to obstruct political opponents, or to assault them, is not going unnoticed by the average American.

Championing the “right” of common street criminals to have ready, unimpeded access to victims by challenging every attempt by law enforcement to keep society safe (no cash bail; charging and sentencing decisions based on race, social status, even political ideology) is incomprehensible to those of us who use our heads for more than a hat rack.

Are they really this stupid? Do they not realize that the majority of the American people are watching their antics with disgust and revulsion?

The answer to both questions is yes.

It’s important to remember the dominant ideological worldview among Democrats — a sort of rich man’s Marxism, where the rise of the proletariat is merely a vehicle for their ultimate plunder.

The aim isn’t to keep MS-13 and Tren de Aragua members here and living among us. That’s just the pretext used. Their true intent is the ultimate assumption of power to decide whether entire classes of people can be jettisoned from larger society, for whatever reason. The left has little use for a piecemeal process of who stays and who goes.

The aim of inane policing and criminal reforms isn’t to ensure that street thugs are dutifully fed a diet of vulnerable innocent victims. That’s just the satisfying consequence. It’s really an attempt to accumulate enough power to decide what is a crime and who is a criminal

This article is speaking more about the motives of the shadowy top of the leftist pyramid, and I would suggest they posit a good theory on their motives. Hence, the last 4 years of MILLIONS of illegals crossing our border.

As evidenced by the broken damn of illegals suddenly being fixed, like some kind of miracle, in shorter order by Trump, it was all INTENTIONAL.

But at the bottom of the pyramid are the useful idiots.
In the last four years, I’ve had democrat voters get red-faced mad insisting that Biden was not doing it on purpose and was not all but blatantly inviting them to cross illegally.

But while they could ignore the numbers before and after biden took office, it’s no longer possible to ignore the numbers before him, during, and then after.

The useful idiots can’t deny it anymore.
But they still don’t care.
They want what they want (either handouts or abortions, or both), and they sign on with everything else their marxist overlords scheme up.

I agree wholeheartedly with both the AT article and your assessment of the differences between the motivations of the left's power movers vs the left's useful idiots.

As I was reading the article, I couldn't help but think of Orwell's "doublethink". As the leftist leaders push for one crazy cause after another, and the useful idiots comply, the useful idiots are often taught to go for causes that contradict each other. For example (typed in my best Foxworth voice), if you believe most men are rapists waiting to happen, and you also believe we ought to force women and girls to share locker rooms with men...you might be a Democrat.

Stuff like that makes most people go, "Wait a second. It's impossible for both of those causes to be right." But the more the useful idiots accept such obvious doublethink, either by lack of critical thinking skills or fear of speaking out, the more the left's power players control the masses into accepting anything they're told.

I’m not even sure if the Left knows what they stand for now. They’re so deep into TDS they simply respond by rote whenever Trump says something. Their current love of illegal immigration, illegal gangbangers, and due process for illegals will come back to haunt them.
