Russia Dismisses Trump Remarks on Oil Prices, Ukraine
Newsweek ^ | 5/6/2025 | Shane Croucher

The Kremlin said oil prices do not affect its national security decisions after U.S. President Donald Trump linked lower prices to Russia wanting to settle the Ukraine war.

Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for Russian President Vladimir Putin, responded to Trump's remarks during a press briefing on Tuesday morning.

Peskov said Russia will continue to work within the OPEC+ format on managing oil prices, the state news agency TASS reported.

Trump had told reporters in the Oval Office on Monday: "I think Russia with the price of oil right now, oil has gone down, we are in a good position to settle, they want to settle. Ukraine wants to settle."

Russia has relied on an oil-purchasing deal with China to help keep its economy afloat while it wages its long-running and resource-draining war in Ukraine, after Western sanctions shut it out of SWIFT, the main international payments system.

But the OPEC Basket Price per barrel of oil has sunk from around $100 at the beginning of 2022 to around the $60 mark today, a 40 percent drop.

“The Kremlin said oil prices do not affect its national security decisions.” Since everything the Russians say is a lie or exaggeration, they are changing their security decisions because of oil prices.

Trump is going to have to learn the hard way, again.

He has zero decent advisors; all his intelligence comes from people who want to prosecute never ending wars. Too many people are too invested professionally with Ukraine.

I am sure the CIA still maintains their Country White Books in online version. If the stats provided by Russia are to believed, vice those provided by the British who have been envious of Russia for 150 years due to their vast land and resources; Russia is not OIL dependent as many want to believe.

The propoganda evident in everything the Brit’s touch in relationship to Trump or Russia is mostly lies.

No one in the west tells the truth of what was spoken or what the context of the statements made by Russia. Everything is skewed by the west to support or justify war.

Unless economic activity is going to plumment worldwide and oil demand drops, the world needs Russia oil. The US embargos Russia, Iran, Venezula oil.

If a few North Sea Oil rigs were taken off line the EU would be in the world of hurt.

The problem for Trump is that he is currently engaged in an effort depreciate the USD by 25% because of the US debt, while he wants to keep prices low in CONUS. The USD is not used by Russia for the majority of their Trade, and Brics is another Issue for Trump since Blinken/Biden failed to counter Brics and actually took steps by freezing assets, stealing assets, and blocking trade to ensure more countsries sought membership away from the US, EU and Swift.

Trump is going to have to learn the hard way, again.

He should have the first the time after getting burned by John Bolton and Mike Pompeo.

Good grief. The second assassination attempt come from a shooter that was recruiting mercenaries for Ukraine.

Trump should be listening to Don Jr., Tulsi, Vance and RFK Jr., not those brazenly lying about Russian causalities.

The man at least sees the enemy. It is intstutionalized. He will have to continue to go along with this war and hope he and those like him in the future carry on the cause of uprooting the forces which only exist because of the very government they suck money out of.

In what way?

I was using the tool to state the opposite of what Putin says and you will be right more than you will be wrong.

I don’t know, the Russians don’t say too much and most of what they say is hard to dispute - like calling Europeans IDIOTS for their energy, immigration, and Globohomo policies. While I’m sure that some of the Zeepers do support ‘European Values’ in those areas (as they never seem to complain about them), I still think that the Russians are making valid points.
