An unmanned Ukrainian sea drone shot down a Russian SU-30 fighter jet near the port of Novorossiysk - home to the Kremlin's Black Sea Fleet. The downing of the £38 million jet was carried out by Group 13 on May 2, a special unit within Ukraine's military intelligence.
The sea drone was reported to be equipped with a R-73 air-to-air missile, which struck the jet in midair. The SU-30 crashed into the sea. Reports suggest that the crew were able to eject from the stricken jet and were later picked up by a civilian cargo ship.
In a statement confirming the plane's shooting down, Ukraine's military intelligence said: "This is the world's first destruction of a combat aircraft by a naval drone."
Ukraine has previously shot down two Russian Mi-8 helicopters using Magura V5 drones on December 31, 2024.
The Sukhoi Su-30 is a twin-engine, two-seat, all-weather, long-range, multirole fighter jet.
It's designed for air superiority, air-to-ground, and air-to-sea operations.
Key characteristics include powerful engines, a large payload capacity, and advanced avionics for air-to-air and air-to-ground combat.

This confirms my description of the Ukraine-Russian war as “The First Drone War”.
Sure, drones have been used in warfare, arguably since WWII.
But the Ukraine-Russian war is the first war where Drones have become, perhaps, the most important type of weapon in the war.
Israel should have taken out Iran’s drone factories 3 years ago while they had the chance.
Maybe. More likely it was armed with a missile made by a U.S/British/German/French konglomerate.
An F-15ski.
SU-30 Russias Best?
Drone should be analyzed to and Compared to Our Reaper Drone and it’s Missles.

This is Huge!
“...as £38m fighter jet shot down by Ukrainian sea drone”
I suspect that by the time the drone reached the plane it was already in the water.
Wondering if Putin has figured out yet that he’s actually fighting against NATO?
“I suspect that by the time the drone reached the plane it was already in the water.”
?
The drone did not reach the plane.
Who writes these brain-dead tabloid headlines?
;^)
England shoots down another Ruzzian jet! A victory for NATO and the Labor Party Liberals. Keep poking the bear—they can’t fight back with NATO shield.
I think the Russians can survive the loss of a single plane.
The BIG QUESTION is how many state-of-the-art, highly classified, Western Systems are we needlessly going to send to Russia for their examination and reverse-engineering. Already, they’ve sent China the details on our Underwater Anti-Ship Drones that Taiwan WAS planning to use to defend themselves against Chinese landing craft...so, yet, another weapons system made obsolete by the Neocon War in Ukraine.
So, we’ll be ‘thanking’ you guys when China STEAMROLLS over Taiwan in the near future.
Mark your calendar, Maxi!
On June 7th 2025, the “supposedly” war-torn city of Kiev will host the

Putin started this, not your imaginary “Neocons”.
“Putin started this, not your imaginary “Neocons”.”
Thanks, I figured you were cool with giving away our secrets to China to make it easier to take Taiwan.
By the way, I AM NOT cool with that.
Not exactly what I consider a ‘drone’ but I suppose that depends on definition.
Generally, drone technology is a new problem...extremely versatile, hard to take out, relatively cheap, easy to make, and will be increasingly autonomous (vs. remote human control).
The very first casualty in any war is the truth.
This keeps getting forgotten on FR where we are constantly barraged with journalistic lies and propaganda from both sides, which is immediately pounced upon as factual and unbiased. You guys would have been an absolute disaster if the internet had been available to the public during WWII.
