Nope, all that was needed to be done was to claim neutrality.

But Russia had no right to demand that / make that a prerequisite for peace.

Your preposterous statement is comparable to saying that WWII didn't have to happen - if only the Allies had acceded to Nazi Germany (and later Soviet Russia) invading, dismembering, and annexing Poland.

In actual fact: All that was needed was for Putin to order his troops to remain in their barracks.

All that was needed was for Putin to mind his damn own business!

Well, Russia thought they were protecting themselves from the threat of NATO expansion, along with the Nazi threat of an ever increasing rise in Ukraine who had been attacking Russian speaking Ukrainians along its border with Russia for many years at that point.

Is Trump wrong to be concerned about China having control of both ports of the Panama Canal?

Is it wrong that we U.S. citizens are concerned about the criminal elements that were allowed in this country by Biden, along with many illegals that were never vetted and we do not know who these people really are or what they real intents are?

Is our concern about the communist threat nothing more than paranoia?

Was it wrong for Sweden, Norway, and the other nations to claim neutrality during WWII?

The point is that sometimes reality dictates that a neighbor sometimes is better off adopting a tactic that eliminates the friction, rather than stoke it, in order to remain whole themselves. Because defusing the friction is almost always more beneficial than is to continue stoking the friction.

We could have eased that friction also by merely taking NATO expansion off of the table, and continue bring Russia further & further into the family of nations, instead of continuously trying to isolate them and continue the belligerent hostile attitude towards them. After all, as I said they had made very positive strides since the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Problem is that you see using force as the only option to defuse the friction. Ukraine brought much of this upon themselves. Which doesn't absolve Russia completely, but it also doesn't absolve Ukraine either. Both played a role in creating the problem. Sadly, we played a major role in creating that problem as well.

It's time that you look at the issue honestly.

Only then will you begin to see that you followed evil to foment more evil, instead of seeking the better option.

Until then, it is worthless for us to communicate.

All that was needed was for Putin to mind his damn own business!

Typical myopic view. As the leader of Russia he was indeed minding his own business, but it was none of our business, other than to seek a peaceful resolution, but again you are unable to see that what happened was by design. Until you acknowledge that reality, then you will be constantly cajoled into accepting unnecessary wars as being necessary.

What is necessary is to bring conflicts to a peaceful resolution as quickly as possible, because then & only then can it achieve the best outcome for both nations.
