“Apple juice? Really?”
As in Walmart’s common apple juice is made from concentrate, that comes from China. All grocery stores, the least expensive apple juice (no sugar added) is derived from China.
The United States produces a significant amount of apple juice domestically. According to the latest National Apple Processing Report, the total apple juice production across major apple-growing regions in the U.S. has reached 406,647 tons so far in 2024. Washington state leads the production with 191,042 tons, while the Appalachian district (Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania) has produced 8,040 tons.
Apple juice concentrate prices range from $11.25 to $17.00 per gallon, depending on acidity and quality. If you're interested in more details, you can check out the full report here.
Directly or indirectly
I remember we at one point were shipping chicken to China to be processed—and then shipped back to us. Do you know where the apples are grown? (I mean, what’s more American...)
Probably explains why apple juice is insanely cheap compared to other juices.
” All grocery stores, the least expensive apple juice (no sugar added) is derived from China.”
indeed ... branded juice like Mott’s claims to be mostly from USA apples, except when the USA apple supply falls short ...
Living in New York State (not so far from Cortland, NY) this sad and happy to hear.
Sad if true, but happy that we can grow and sell more apples from NY.
When I played golf everyday in Washington State, there were hundreds thousand apples fallen on the ground from apple trees. May be new factories can start there producing apple juice after the cheap product from China stops
