Dmitry Medvedev, deputy chairman of Russia's Security Council, said on Saturday that President Donald Trump's assertion that the U.S. had done more than any other country to win World War Two was "pretentious nonsense".
Trump posted on social network Truth Social late on Thursday that "nobody was close to us in terms of strength, bravery, or military brilliance" in both world wars, and that "we did more than any other country, by far, in producing a victorious result in World War II."

"Trump recently announced that the U.S. made the biggest contribution to victory in World War Two and that he will introduce a special holiday on May 8. A holiday is not a bad thing, but his first statement is pretentious nonsense," Medvedev said in a post on the VK social network.
"Our people sacrificed 27 million lives of their sons and daughters in the name of destroying accursed fascism. Therefore, Victory Day is ours and it is May 9! So it was, so it is, so it will always be!" wrote Medvedev.

Not to worry, Stalin ole girl. As soon as Adolf gets tired of you he will start dating the Imam of the Middle East. They remained good buds . Until the Brits pushed west into Algeria and the little goat lover had to flee to Germany.
Killing Germans on a distant front line isn’t how you measure success. If they weren’t killed and continued rolling into Russia they would just be a threat to territory that was irrelevant and off no use to us or the west. They
would have to hold onto their gains or retreat back home to try and restore everything being bombed in the west.
Because when the US and UK air power destroyed Germany’s manufacturing capability those guys would have no supplies anyway.
The war may have been prolonged because they would have more troops to prevent invasion, but the German manufacturing capability to arm and supply those troops was being destroyed by the allies, regardless of anything going on in Russia. As was the German people’s will to keep fighting.
This is the correct statement.
Sacrifice is in terms of lives lost.
Contribution is in valuation of the production and food.
America has never experienced war on the scale of the EUropeans and Russia, or the Chinese. These countries have lost millions onf people. American values life, but we are adverse to losing lives, and have no stomach for losing a million men, or women even in WWII; when the US contemplated lossing an additional 1.5m in the invasion of Japan, we nuked them instead and suffered the “fallout” so to speak.
What saved the Soviet Union was frankly, the appalling conditions of their roads. That’s what rendered Blitzkrieg useless, when the rains turned the roads into mud.
Germany lost 15,000 alone, just invading Poland. It wasn’t necessarily the cakewalk for them people thought it was.
“I contend that both US and Russia were necessary to defeat the Nazis.”
Being against WW3 and being a realist regarding the HUGE MESS that the Neocons created with their ‘Ukraine Project’ doesn’t sit well with the relatively small bunch here who still spout Globalist talking points...but I will STILL make my points (sorry Zeepers). Anyway, here’s my take:
The Soviet Union was totally unprepared for the war and thus had to throw huge amounts of bodies at the Germans. They did. But the Soviets still would have been rolled over if not for the HUGE amount of Western aid they got. So I agree with you...it took BOTH to win over Hitler and bummer that grown adults cannot even agree on something that basic.
Yes in 1943 when war was still going on and they needed the aid, my point was the present.
Russian history books generally acknowledge and discuss US Lend-Lease aid to the USSR during WWII, recognizing its significance to the Soviet war effort. However, the narrative can vary in tone, with some highlighting the help as a crucial factor in the Soviet victory while others emphasize the Soviet Union’s own strength and resilience. Soviet historiography often downplayed the role of Allied aid, emphasizing Soviet domestic production.
Trump is right, but do you actually think that Russia or any other country would sit back and let anyone, even President Trump say that comment and not challenge it? They’d be stupid if they didn’t say anything in support of their own country’s performance in that war.
It took Germany almost 100 years to pay all their reparations from WWI.
Yes
Russians drove Germany out of their country, and pushed them back before America even entered the war. If Russia hadn’t been able to do that, the war might have ended differently.
Everything that blowhard Medvedev says is pretentious nonsense.
Hopefully one thing we’ve learned is that war reparations is a stupid idea.
So is loaning money to foreign countries.
And for internal consumption.
When Germany invaded Russia, Stalin had as many steel factories and weapons factories dismantled and moved farther into the interior via rail. The fact that they were able to do that in such a short time, and get as many factories back on line as quickly as possible is something of a miracle.
You’re that close to the Trumps that you know what President Trump is going to be doing at Mar-a-lago tonight? How lucky you are.
Medvedev should have kept his mouth shut.
Zelensky hasn't been very silent either, especially when it comes to badmouthing the U.S. I just wish both sides would destroy each other and get it over with. And they can take out Europe while they're at it. Just do it without my tax dollars please.
