Some Protestants believe in the Doctrine of Eternal Security, aka Once Saved, Always Saved.
Once you declare Jesus your Savior, you are saved. Nothing you do from then on can cause you to lose Salvation.
These Protestant mobsters don't even have to seek penance for their murders. They've publicly declared Jesus their personal savior, so they're good for eternity.
Whereas many Catholic prayers ask God to grant us persistence, so that we don't fall away from the faith and lose our Salvation.
One of the scenes in the movie, the bikers in the bar scene, was based on a real incident. Though it didn’t happen in the Bronx.
A handful of bikers rode into a mob connected neighborhood and went into a mob owned bar. They got rowdy and violent which earned them a beating from mob guys. A day or two later those same bikers returned, only with their entire biker gang, looking to exact revenge. They drove up the street towards the bar, only to find shotguns pointed at them from almost every window and doorway up and down the street.
Wisely, they decided not to come to a stop and just rode on through and never came back.
Oh yeah, that’s a great scene from the movie. It was based on Chaz Palminteri’s life growing up in the Bronx. He plays Sonny the boss but the kid is him and he did actually witness a shooting growing up.
You know who else hates it? Old Scratch.
From one who belongs to a church that considers all others heretics and murdered millions during her reign of terror.
"SDAs ... we make a big deal about keeping the Sabbath, but throw the Commandment about 'not bearing false witness against thy neighbor' right into the trash where it belongs. Of course, Romanists aren't really our neighbors anyway, so who cares what kind of malarkey we make up about them?"
You know, the one that calls for Sunday to be a legal holiday.
Oh, you mean like it was pretty much everywhere in the 1950s? Yes, that would be truly horrible. Giving people the day off on Sundays is truly the devil's work. It's a wonder we even survived those dark days.
I’ve met many SDA people - I lived for awhile in the town here in Maryland where their University is, and still live close to it.
All the ones I’ve met have been very nice, engaging people. In my experience, Vespa presents as a poor example of her religion.
(Unfortunately, there are a number of poor examples of the various religions here on FR, not just SDA.)
_____You just really hate the idea of sins being forgiven, and sinners getting a new start, don’t you?____
Nah. We just believe in a personal loving deep relationship with the actual savior more than with a priest or church.
So we aren’t of the devil? I’m so confused by you guys...
I don’t know what you mean by ‘you guys’.
I don’t belong to any ‘religion’, and I’m not a fan of ‘religiosity’.
I just don’t like seeing people snipe at the faiths of others.
Protestants don't believe Mary was a virgin
Baptists don't believe they see their fellow congregation members at the liquor store
The Pastafarians seem pretty open minded about everything...
For instance, someone in the federal witness protection program might be relocated in a some small town with no Mafia presence.
So the Mafia contacts the Hell Angels and other biker gangs. Gives them photos of the witness, and offers a reward if they spot him. Bike gangs cover a wide range, riding through many small towns.
The Mafia, biker gangs, Columbian cartels have different turfs and strengths. If any of them are seeking an enemy who's left their turf, they will contract with the gang who might control the turf where their enemy has gone.

Who is “drunk Ellen White”?

Then why subject yourself to such stress and frustration. Why not just ignore this Sabbath, Adventist stuff? Just move on. It’s easy you know. When i see posts about soccer or say.....the best tasting beer..I move on.
You seem to be one of those masochists that likes to be tormented. I don’t get it....just move on. Nothing for you to see and get your panties all up in a wad for.
Geez.....whiz......
___Who is “drunk Ellen White”?___
I don’t know, these Catholics are calling her a drunk. I think because she was a Protestant who wrote about the Protestant Reformation, the heroes of God like Luther, Tyndale, Wycliff, the counterfeit religious system clearly identified in the Bible ...a system based on works, and she wrote about how people are charmed by Catholic serices and worship services..and how it can be attractive ...but in reality it’s all for show....a system based on deception...
So they think she must have been drunk when she wrote this.....(see below)....
Me? I think she was inspired by the Lord to write something like this.....
Quote:
Many Protestants suppose that the Catholic religion is unattractive and that its worship is a dull, meaningless round of ceremony. Here they mistake. While Romanism is based upon deception, it is not a coarse and clumsy imposture. The religious service of the Roman Church is a most impressive ceremonial. Its gorgeous display and solemn rites fascinate the senses of the people and silence the voice of reason and of conscience. The eye is charmed. Magnificent churches, imposing processions, golden altars, jeweled shrines, choice paintings, and exquisite sculpture appeal to the love of beauty. The ear also is captivated. The music is unsurpassed. The rich notes of the deep-toned organ, blending with the melody of many voices as it swells through the lofty domes and pillared aisles of her grand cathedrals, cannot fail to impress the mind with awe and reverence.
This outward splendor, pomp, and ceremony, that only mocks the longings of the sin-sick soul, is an evidence of inward corruption. The religion of Christ needs not such attractions to recommend it. In the light shining from the cross, true Christianity appears so pure and lovely that no external decorations can enhance its true worth. It is the beauty of holiness, a meek and quiet spirit, which is of value with God.
Brilliancy of style is not necessarily an index of pure, elevated thought. High conceptions of art, delicate refinement of taste, often exist in minds that are earthly and sensual. They are often employed by Satan to lead men to forget the necessities of the soul, to lose sight of the future, immortal life, to turn away from their infinite Helper, and to live for this world alone.
A religion of externals is attractive to the unrenewed heart. The pomp and ceremony of the Catholic worship has a seductive, bewitching power, by which many are deceived; and they come to look upon the Roman Church as the very gate of heaven. None but those who have planted their feet firmly upon the foundation of truth, and whose hearts are renewed by the Spirit of God, are proof against her influence. Thousands who have not an experimental knowledge of Christ will be led to accept the forms of godliness without the power. Such a religion is just what the multitudes desire.
No, I happen to believe that religious faith is important; and that our spiritual aspirations are the most important ones that we have.
I also believe that those are intensely personal, individual, and subjective issues. Defending the right to the individual, personal viewpoint isn’t ‘Torment’.
But you’re no different from ebb tide. You both like to post provocative snipes at religions other than your own. It’s hilarious to watch two resentful ‘religionists’ going after one another.
____The Catholic Church did not murder “millions” during it’s “reign of terror,”___
Agree, by most credible noncatholic sources, it wasn’t millions...it was tens of millions. Some say up to 100 million during her reign of terror for 1260 years. Uh, that’s why it’s called the “Dark ages.” ....but for her...it was her greatest hour...her noonday.
Glad I could clarify.
Far too many do; not being Catholic myself, I would hesitate to offer my thoughts but having attended Mass many times I do have a basic understanding.
