President Donald Trump late Thursday announced plans to designate May 8 as World War II "Victory Day" in the United States, which coincides with the "Victory in Europe Day" that has been celebrated in most of Europe since the Germans surrendered in 1945.

-snip-

"We won both Wars, nobody was close to us in terms of strength, bravery, or military brilliance, but we never celebrate anything," the president wrote. "That’s because we don’t have leaders anymore, that know how to do so! We are going to start celebrating our victories again!"

I guess the War in the Pacific is meaningless now.

Sorry Marines. you don’t matter to Trump, only “winners”.

And veterans of the Korean war, Vietnam the Iraq wars are just suckers and losers to him.

Idiot

???? September 2nd is “V-J Day” (WWII) and November 11 is “Armistice/Veterans Day” (WWI).

https://www.nationalww2museum.org/war/articles/v-j-day
https://prologue.blogs.archives.gov/2018/11/09/from-armistice-to-veterans-day/

And the state holiday celebrated in Rhode Island for the end of WWII is “Victory Day” and is set on “the 2nd Monday in August”.

If you look at WWII, the Pacific, the Army losses in the Pacific were about the same as the Navy and Marine losses in the entire War, the Army also conducted the vast majority of beach landings and continued their use of code talkers that they had adopted during WWI and also used in Africa and in the European theater.

You’d think the Left would be on board since we defeated the Fascists. Like that one political ad that referred to the men who landed on Normandy as the original “Antifa”.

The left was sure weird with calling those guys antifa, as fathers and men with opinions and politics back in civilian life of the 1950s and 60s they are just about the most hated of all American white males by the left.

Harry S Truman's claim that the USMC had a "propaganda machine that was almost equal to Stalin's" was not completely without merit.

Something that really shocks me about history is the Army history of beach landings, from the historical past like the Mexican/American war, to the largest, to the most of history and WWII, the Army totally dominates those.

If Trump chose VJ Day, you would complain he was celebrating the Atomic Bomb.

I didn't know about this myself. (I did know about Normandy and Sicily.)

STFU

Leave veterans day alone!

He wants to change November 11 (Veterans Day) to Victory Day for WWI?

A slap in the face to ALL veterans on a day supposed to honor ALL veterans.

I am retired military and spent on the ground in both Iraqi wars.

Mr fake bone spurs draft dodger...Trump: “I wasn’t going to Vietnam”

Something else that was surprising was learning that the Army had its own massive navy and still has a sizable one today.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ships_of_the_United_States_Army#Currently_active_ship_classes
“During World War II, the U.S. Army operated about 127,800 watercraft of various types.[1] Those included large troop and cargo transport ships that were Army-owned hulls, vessels allocated by the War Shipping Administration, bareboat charters, and time charters. In addition to the transports, the Army fleet included specialized types. Those included vessels not related to transport such as mine warfare vessels, waterway or port maintenance ships, and other service craft.”

“For example:[1]

Troop and cargo ships over 1,000 gross tons that often carried the U.S. Army Transport ship prefix “USAT” with their name if they were Army owned or bareboat chartered: 1,557 ships
Other ships over 1,000 gross tons, including hospital ships (prefix “USAHS”), cable ships, aircraft repair ships, port repair ships and others without any title other than “U.S. Army” and a number or name: 108 ships
Vessels under 1,000 gross tons of numerous types that include the 511 FS (”Freight and Supply”) small nonstandard coastal freighters of numerous designs, 361 minecraft with the large Mine Planters carrying U.S. Army Mine Planter (prefix “USAMP”) with a number above a name, 4,343 tugs of all types and a varied array of 4,697 launches and small service craft just designated U.S. Army with a number or name: 12,379
Barges and non-propelled watercraft that included 16,787 pontoons: 25,383
Amphibious assault craft: 88,366”

Why do you repeat the Democrats' "suckers and losers" big lie? You might recall that President Trump signed a law recognizing March 29 as Vietnam Veterans' Memorial Day, "a day for all Americans to come together to remember and honor the service and sacrifice of our Vietnam Veterans and their families."

I thi9nk you are mistaken it was the MacArthur comand that had its own publicity department—if corespondents did not tow the line then then did not get the juicy details. It was a machine indeed.

Whereas the Navy and Marines had to be convinced to report successes as well as failures.

I learned of all this through the magnificient audio book trilogy by Ian Toll -—its a big beefy 100 some hours of facts, stories and descriptions that will give one a complete understanding of the Pacific War from Pearl Harbor to V-J Day. It also comes at a price tag too....but indulge and enjoy.

Would be nice if he declared one month as Military Remembrance Month - the LGBQ and Trans have a whole month.
