Even after Pete Rose’s passing, Rob Manfred still finds himself continually talking about the legendary career Rose had and his controversial ban. When Donald Trump was re-elected, many began to realize that the ban could soon come to an end, which could put Pete Rose into the Hall of Fame. Manfred has been very quiet on the topic, but he did recently sit down with the president of the United States.
Rob Manfred Remains Quiet on Pete Rose’s Status
At the age of 83, Pete Rose passed away last September. Rose was a 17-time All-Star and holds more records than anyone can imagine. Leading the MLB in hits, games played, at-bats, singles, and outs, Rose is a three-time World Series champion to go along with numerous other awards

It would be a political move-not good. “The bitch set me up” fella was rewarded with an elected office as I remember.
EXCEPT Pete Rose.
So I've always thought he was an asshole. And I don't really care if he gets in the Hall of Fame or not.
Johnny Bench, a legitimate Hall of Famer, became good friends with my mom. She had a book that he signed.
He wasn’t on the reds in 1980.
Even if the ban from baseball is lifted, he still may not be in the hall of fame. Being elected to the hall is a completely separate procedure from reinstating him into baseball. Some hall of fame voters could still vote against him being elected.
Actually, he apparently did. He just didn't bet against his own team. The reason why that still matters is that as manager, Pete controlled which pitcher started games, and especially how he used his bullpen.
Phillies. World Series. Best series ever.
Before that is done, I would like to see a possible exoneration of Shoeless Joe Jackson and for him to be in the Hall of Fame.
And then Reagan got elected ...
You’re right, I was just going on (really bad) memory. I was just a kid. Must have been ‘78. Anyway, Vic Correll is the family member in question. I don’t like mentioning his name, because he’s also an asshole. He got too big for his britches, became a free agent, and nobody picked him up. Because he had a well deserved reputation for being difficult to deal with.
thanks- but a Presidential pardon would have little to no effect on Rose getting into the HOF
Bob Feller used to say that baseball had a lot of rules, but only a couple were posted in EVERY clubhouse. Gambling was one of them.
Pete’s van has nothing to do with “crimes.”
He violated the cardinal rule of professional baseball. He got a lifetime ban. His life is over. MLB could rule tomorrow to reinstate him.
Great ball player. Kind of a dirtbag guy.
Yeah,,, he bet on his own team to win. Her lost money off they lost.
Yeah. See #22.
Cobb did. He and Tris Speaker were busted in 196 but Judge Landis swept it under tbe rug because he felt MLB would not survive a betting scandal involving two super stars so recent to the Black Dox scandal
The redress of historic wrongs somehow ruins the purity that history deserves, otherwise it cheapens history. Stop changing what cannot or should not be changed. It encourages reactionary decisions in important matters of the day, thinking decisions can be revisited later if they are flawed today. Get it right the first time. If it’s not it needs to weigh on all.
It would be a symbolic gesture.
Add Shoeless Joe Jackson as well
“...but what crime did he commit that he needs a presidential pardon?”
The only crime against the game that he violated was with his contract with MLB that says he is not allowed to bet on baseball games and he did and lied about it for years. If he had come out and said he had a gambling addiction and needed medical help it might have been different. But he was caught gambling while playing for a few teams, in some cases using the locker room phones for placing bets.
He was jailed for tax evasion failing to report income from autograph appearances, memorabilia sales, and gambling, which led to his lifetime ban from baseball. He knew what he was doing. And there is nothing to be gained for pardoning him as the pardon is not to alleviate the crimes. They still exist after a pardon so he can’t be alleviated of the punishment that he’s already completed. So the HOF is still out of reach and he’s deceased.

Thanks for that. I do remember reading about that YEARS ago.
Cobb was trash for betting on baseball as was Tris Speaker. It really does darken the integrity of the game.
True.
Stealing bases doesn’t count. 198 of them during his career.
Example of a genuine crime:
In a minor league game in 2007, Jose Offerman, a former major leaguer, was arrested after throwing his bat and striking two opposing players. He was charged with two counts of second-degree assault.
Offerman, playing for the Long Island Ducks, was hit by a pitch and then charged the mound with his bat, swinging at least twice and striking both the pitcher and catcher. He was arrested during the game delay. Charged with two counts of assault, second degree.
7 years later:
A jury awarded $940,000 to former Bridgeport Bluefish catcher Johnathan Nathans, who had sought $4.8 million, his lawyer Josh Koskoff said. Nathans is still affected by a head injury he suffered in the attack, although he has made some recovery and is now an attorney in Portland, Maine, his lawyer said.
“What we really were looking for after seven years was accountability for Mr. Offerman,” Koskoff said.
