Even after Pete Rose’s passing, Rob Manfred still finds himself continually talking about the legendary career Rose had and his controversial ban. When Donald Trump was re-elected, many began to realize that the ban could soon come to an end, which could put Pete Rose into the Hall of Fame. Manfred has been very quiet on the topic, but he did recently sit down with the president of the United States.
Rob Manfred Remains Quiet on Pete Rose’s Status
At the age of 83, Pete Rose passed away last September. Rose was a 17-time All-Star and holds more records than anyone can imagine. Leading the MLB in hits, games played, at-bats, singles, and outs, Rose is a three-time World Series champion to go along with numerous other awards

Not a big baseball fan, but I think Pete Rose should be in the hall of fame.
Ty Cobb and Babe Ruth weren't exactly the Virgin Mary.

Did they bet on baseball?

An idiot article from an idiot site- the author looks like he’s 13YO...
I agree Rose deserves to be in the HOF but what crime did he commit that he needs a presidential pardon?
To: Fury
IMO steroid heads were worse. Pete didn’t bet on his own team.

what federal crime did he commit?

The MLB HOF is not controlled by MLB. I’d guess the HOF Board isn’t fond of Manfred.

I think this whole issue regarding Pete Rose has more to do with who he was versus what he did. Isn’t taking steroids’ cheating? How many ball players are in the Hall of Fame who juiced. Bath Ruth juiced on hot dogs and beer.

Pete didn’t bet on his own team. Did Pete bet against his team? In other words, were the bets seen as incentives to fix games?

Agreed. The NFL (rightly) did not revoke O.J. Simpson's status. The HoF status recognizes performance as a player/manager/owner/broadcaster, etc. As a former Dodger fan, I had no use for the Reds/Phillies Rose, and he was a bit too much of a self-promoter for my taste ( I would have rather had Joe Morgan on my team), BUT his accomplishments are unquestionable. He was a larger than life personality with the performance to back it up. The story of baseball cannotbe told without Pete Rose.

Think of “Babe Ruth”
And you think of hot dogs and beer
But if he can hit a home run, so can you,
And your weight is just nowhere near.

When Manfred pulled the All-Star Game from Atlanta in ‘21 I knew he was a chump. I still can’t stand the guy.

We don't know if he did or not. I thought he said he didn't bet AGAINST his own team, which is still problematic, because it could influence the manager to use a pitcher early, and not consider long term consequences, for instance.
That said, I wouldn't put him in as a manager, but certainly would as a player.

Now that betting parlors are the sponsors of major league sports, it seems a little silly to have punished a guy for betting his own team would win.

So... what's the over/under from legalized sportsball betting such such as Caesars Sportsbook, FanDuel, DraftKings, etc. giving on someone denied entry into the Hall of Fame for sports gambling, on actually getting into the Hall of Fame?
Over / under on the number of attempts?
Over / under on a Presidential pardon?
Over / under on if it will be Q2, Q3, Q4, or next year?

Rose did, and he later admitted to it. That was the deal-breaker for me.

You keep believing. He was a POS. He did bet on his wife and 2 kids though “dating” a 14 year old girl while married. If I was her father it would be the last bet he ever made.

I do know that when I watch baseball these days I think mostly of Pete Rose every time a batter steps up to the plate. That beats some Hall of Fame remedy in my book.
Pete Rose owns the game IMHO in contrast to Rob Manfred.
