Common Sense Is Highly Contagious — Except Among Dems
Issues & Insights ^ | 30 Apr, 2025 | I & I Editorial Board

At a town hall meeting last week, Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez — one of the few moderate Democrats left in the world — made a perfectly common-sensical statement: “Americans believe that only U.S. citizens should be determining the outcome of American elections.”

She was greeted with a torrent shouts, boos, and profanity, signs that said “shame” from her constituents, and was ushered out of room for “security reasons.”

After President Donald Trump called for a “revolution of common sense,” it spread like a virus – except among Democrats, who appear to have a natural immunity.

Trump has been implementing his common-sense agenda at a breakneck speed, whether it’s restoring order at the border, protecting taxpayers from waste and fraud, insisting that foreign policy focus on what’s best for the U.S., dispensing with DEI, transgenderism, and other leftist projects that defy common sense, protecting parental rights.

The most important thing Trump has done, however, has been to make it safe again for everyday Americans to express common-sense views.

That illegal immigrants should be sent back to their home countries. That borders should be secure and streets safe. That it’s OK to buy reliable, affordable gas cars. That vast amounts of government spending is wasteful. That there are only two genders. That discrimination is never acceptable, no matter how you dress it up. That companies should focus on serving consumers, not anti-capitalist zealots. That violence for political ends is never justified.

Major corporations are rejecting DEI, now that it’s safe to admit what they knew all along – that it increased strife among workers, alienated customers, and didn’t help their bottom lines. Likewise, corporations are abandoning the uber-woke “environment, social, governance” investment ideology for the same reason.

Female athletes increasingly feel empowered to reject the dangerously misguided idea that they should have to compete against men suffering gender dysphoria.

Even Hollywood seems to be catching the common-sense bug.

“In a market pivot that’s gone somewhat under the radar, key Hollywood players seem to be quietly turning away from the wokeism that’s financially punished the industry for years. Families in this country want more wholesome options—and, in a surprising twist, producers seem much more willing to provide them,” noted the Washington Stand’s Suzanne Bowdey.

And a poll of California voters shows a widening rift between them and the state’s Democratic elites, with a plurality wanting to work with Trump rather than attack him.

“Forty-three percent of registered voters said (Democratic) leaders were ‘too confrontational’ — a sentiment largely driven by Republicans and independents — compared to a third who found them ‘too passive,’” reports Politico.

Liberal comedian Bill Maher had the temerity to take on Trump-deranged Democrats and describe his surprise that, after having dinner in the White House, he discovered that Trump isn’t the monster they’ve claimed him to be.

And what are Democrats doing in the face of this revolution of common sense? They are losing their minds.

Just three other Democrats in the House joined Gluesenkamp Perez in voting for the SAVE Act, which will require proof of citizenship to register to vote (a requirement overwhelmingly supported by the public). None voted for a bill to protect girls’ sports from “transgender” boys.

Instead of decrying the massive costs of Joe Biden’s open borders policy, Democrats are flying to El Salvador to demand that an illegal immigrant from El Salvador – who might or might not be affiliated with the MS-13 gang – be brought back to the U.S. against El Salvador’s wishes. They are defending a Milwaukee judge who was arrested for breaking the law when she helped an illegal immigrant avoid arrest in her courtroom. (So much for the Democrats’ “no one is above the law” mantra.)

They are comparing Bill Maher’s dinner with Trump to having an enjoyable meal with Hitler.

They are boycotting companies for ditching DEI (to no discernible effect).

They are turning to profanity-laced rants. As the Hill reports, “Democrats are embracing the f-bomb in congressional campaign messaging as they seek to tap into their party’s anger.” They’re holding sit-ins on the Capitol building steps.

They are attacking young women who want to compete against other women and who don’t want men getting naked with them in their locker rooms as bigots.

They are mounting terrorist attacks against Tesla, a company that is responsible for keeping 20 million tons of carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere.

They are calling for “mass protests, for mobilization, for disruption,” as Illinois’ billionaire Gov. J.B. Pritzker did this weekend at a meeting of New Hampshire Democrats.

Democrats are even touting incomparably dense and unqualified Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who is currently abusing taxpayer money to join the mysteriously rich socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders on a “fight the oligarchy” tour, as their next presidential candidate.

The problem for Democrats is that, once unleashed, common sense is difficult to contain, no matter how much they cry and stamp their feet.

It is probably hard to grasp common sense when you are insane.

The US needs common sense property and income tax caps to protect its middle class.

The rich and high-income people generally have feet and will have international options.

Pamphleteer Thomas Payne helped inspire the American Revolution with a famous tract titled…”Common Sense.”

My personal pet peeve is when some psychologically deranged man wants to pretend to be a woman and the news articles actually refer to them as a woman!

I can never make sense of what the heck they are reporting, because I never know if this is a mentally ill man pretending to be a woman, or a mentally ill woman pretending to be a man unless they reveal their original name!

If he’s in prison for violating El Salvadoran law, then he’s likely to be there for his judicially set time.

Folks, don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Our pols are all evil, but many of us are not.

Donald Dems are why Deep State has to steal elections.

Please keep in mind that we didn’t vote for these expletives-deleted, either.

I doubt that many democRATs have read anything written by Thomas Payne. They seem to favor that Marx guy.

See my reply #10.

And for the record, I can lay hands on my well worn copy of Paine’s writings in seconds. :-)

A nit for the writer:

“ That violence for political ends is never justified.”

The Founding Fathers disagree.

Clinical hysteria, ‘duck and cover’, cheating, mendacity, melodrama and fraud are their default postures.

Every one of those techniques (and certainly, all combined) precludes common sense.

Rational, intelligent people figure that out before they leave the playground.

Violence for a political end is how America got started.

It would appear the Democrats are just working to protect their new voter class. Love how laws don’t matter about who can vote. Of course the courts are no help, hell they even prosecute those demanding voter laws be followed!

I hope Marie runs for the Senate. She’s no Linda Smith but she would be a big improvement over Cantwell or Murray. With all mail in voting only Democrats have a chance.
